Use to back in the day and would get 'thanks' flash about 95% of the time.
Now a days........nope
Very few 'truckers' acknowledge it any more so I concentrate on my driving and expect them to cut me short

Did at one time, but now I don't.
I don't need any rocks thrown up on my new windshield off of their tires!!

My now wife in her rowdy days (60s) used to flash truckers. We could get them lined up for miles going 5 under the limit waiting for us to pass. Their CBs were smoking ha! Oh, I'm sorry you meant the other kind.

I do. Much easier and safer IMO to do with a dedicated ICC switch like most DP's have. Hopefully, it doesn't turn into like driving a motorcycle and you can't ride 2 tenths of a mile without expecting to wave to another bike.

I do when I feel it is necessary. And sometimes get a response.
On another note. What about flashing trains? In 2018 we did all of Route 66 towing a TT. Saw lots of trains running along side. Would see the same one many times what with the tracks criss crossing and all. Anyway I would flash high beams when they were coming towards us and wave. Many of them would respond with their train whistles. The first time, I told DW to put her arm out and do the horn pull motion. She didn't know I had flashed the lights (to get their attention) and didn't think we would get a response. When the engineer blew his horn, we were both like little kids laughing and all. What a way to feel young again. I would give anything to be able to thank that engineer. Ron

No kidding. I‘ve had Vettes, Jeeps and and still have the Harley. All the hand waving is a little over the top. I might raise my fingers off the grip to ‘wave’ back, but ain’t no dropping arm to the side wave from me. No one wave at me when I drive my Escape. Lol
I will flash the lights when a trucker is needing to move back over to get out of the passing lane when being followed, but just to flash every time one passes, nope

Yes, I try to help them as best I can. I hardly ever get a thank you flash back. When I do though, I appreciate it and I say to my Honey, now there is a Gentleman Trucker. At night, as a trucker, if you see darkness to the right or you know that the driver turned their lights off briefly so you can move back over, you appreciate it. I drove truck before so I understand.
Also, while we are on the subject, this has been said before, but, when it's raining or bad weather, as a trucker, please turn on your headlights. You just can't see well in the side mirrors if someone is there. Again, PLEASE turn on your headlights when it's raining. It rains a lot around here, although that seems to be changing some.
Have a Great Week.
PS. Like the above said, I don't flash all the time. But you know he wants back over when he turns his right turn signal on.

I read somewhere that trucking companies discourage flashing because of liability concerns.

I used to flash my high beams to signal OK to turn back into the lane.
Until I found out my lights weren't flashing!
DTRL's are on, so for some reason the turn stalk doesn't flash the highs.
Now I just tap the headlight switch to "park". Same result.
Happy Glamping.
ps. DTRL's should be mandatory on ALL vehicles IMHO.

I’ll flash them when I see a line of cars behind them, esp in inclement weather. But in bright sunshine and minimal traffic not so much.

Yeah, that is about the size of it. A little courtesy on a busy road goes a long way.
