We bought new just six months ago, and since then Winnebago has raised prices twice. The same trailer we bought now carries a list price $5,000 higher. Buyers should know that dealer cost is normally lower than dealer invoice. Before the boom, you could actually do a dealer invoice deal. But even today, if you’re patient, you may be able to find a dealer willing to negotiate an invoice plus deal. If you can buy at invoice plus 2-5%, you’re probably getting about the best deal you’ll find. You may have to travel hundreds of miles.

Some say, buy local because you’ll be at the head of the line for service. My feeling is, if I can’t fix it myself, $5,000 or more buys me a lot of beer while I’m waiting in line. If you’re buying a motorhome, you can buy a lot of Don Perignon by waiting in line.
Ah but new trend in dealer service is "didn't buy here/no service here"

When this sellers market is over, too many sold, too many find out RVing is expensive, break down too often and is a awful lot of work, it will be a buyers market again. Prices will drop when inventories jump way up due to too few buyers. It's coming.

Authorized dealers for a particular brand can not deny service to owners of that brand. Particularly warranty service. It’s in their contract. That doesn’t mean they won’t try to delay service. But a call to the manufacturer complaining that such and such dealer refuses to service your product or warranty will likely resolve the situation.

This. Exactly. I find it hard to fault a business for making a profit. And it isn’t gouging if someone is willing to pay it. Remember , an rv is a discretionary purchase. Not a must have. If current prices are too high for you , wait. But don’t criticize a business for doing what they are in business to do.

This is the RV Dealers NOT Vehicle/Auto Dealers

Totally different and YES Dealers have refused service cause RV was NOT purchased from them

RVtravel.com gets frequent letters from RVers angered by this practice.

Unfortunately, many people do not understand this basic concept at all. They just want what they want at the price they want to pay.

Of course I want it at my price. What rational person doesn't want it at the price they want to pay?

It's an economic system. It's called capitalism. It's served this country fairly well for a couple of hundred years. There are places you can move that don't have that type of economic system and you are free to move there from this country. Unfortunately, some of them won't allow you to move back if you don't like it. Your choice. Me I'll stay put and wait out the seller's market.

Gas and diesel prices are climbing at every station.

Don't buy from any brand, until it comes down again.

That will show them.

Capitalism is not a system. It's the lack of a system. That's what makes it great. There is no system that can create wealth and human progress like capitalism.

Softwood lumber is up 78% in a year, steel is up 15.8% in a year, energy prices are up 25% this year [Mod Edit]. A LOT of all of those are used in the construction of an RV.

Cyber attacks shut down major oil and beef suppliers in the last few weeks.

It's not capitalism, it's supply and demand. America has only seen shortages like this in a time of war. It's becoming the perfect economic storm, and unless we refocus as a nation we will look back at these as the good old days.

Perhaps a better idea is to remove the artificial restrictions on supply.
