I think we’ve hit bottom

We’ve been toying with selling our truck and fifth wheel off an on for a while now. We have been looking and finally found the perfect MH for us and have been trying to work a deal. The MH is at a dedicated MH dealer and wholesales everything else. Here’s where we are:

2021 GMC Denali HD Duramax - value per his trade partner is $63k. I went to a GMC dealer yesterday and was offered $58k. The dealers have stock back now even though some trucks aren’t coming with some standard features, per the dealer.

2021 Alliance Paradigm 310RL - he can’t take it on trade. His partner for RV’s isn’t interested. I’ve contacted an Alliance dealer where we are right now and they’re not either.

I guess we’ll keep motoring around as-is for a while until things change.

You could list the Alliance for private sale and see what happens. There's always a price at which buyers will come...

Or put it at a reputable consignment place like PPL in Houston.

If that trade partner is buying the Denali for $63k vs the dealer of of $58, that sounds pretty good. But if that is a "trade-in" against the coach purchase, maybe not so good, since it implicitly includes some discount on the coach purchase price. You might be better off selling the truck outright and buying the coach in an all-cash deal. If you can get the seller to quote the sale both ways...

The dealer is highly rated and the price is the price, no change for cash or trade. We’ll get back home and try to sell. If it doesn’t go any better we’ll travel happily with it. I don’t mind losing a little money but not that much overall.

What do you mean by "bottom"? Prices for used vehicles/RVs aren't going to go up unless it is some sort of collectable.

Not at the bottom yet, but close. I just made a reasonable offer on an ordered unit, from a brand the dealer doesn't even advertise and was denied.

I meant the market has changed a lot in the last six months. The prices have dropped dramatically and new units are hanging around.

Because they don't know what's coming. I've said before, Tesla just did price cuts across all their models and that will happen across the board in the industry when they clue in. Musk is just a step ahead as usual. You dont charge sky high 2021 prices along with 8% interest rates and a recession. The RV industry needs to be on top of this especially, in the last down-turn most of them ceased to exist.

Buffet will be the first to do it (Forest river). Then Thor and Winnebago will follow, reluctantly, any solo co better have the house in order (no debt, ability to slow the line to one shift, even part time if needed and keep the lights on while also slashing prices) Considering the gushing profits of the last few years they should be able to weather the storm, but it has to be managed well.

They've been saying a recession is coming for two years now, but latest unemployment rate is the lowest it's been since 1969. I do think that the 8% interest rate could finally bring it on though.

The low unemployment rate just reflects that many are no longer searching for work--easier to now work and live off govt money. If they included the ones who are NOT working but NOT looking for work, it would be much higher..

I still don't know what you mean by we've reached the bottom.
We are past "peak" but prices are continuing down, so we haven't reached "bottom". At least in my mind.

Yes, if they included those who are not looking for work the unemployment rate would be higher, but that's always been the case. The Government didn't suddenly change the way they calculate the unemployment rate.

I'll bet you didn't know that 75% of people receiving Government assistance are retirees. I'm sure you won't mind giving up your Medicare for the good of the country.

Rv lots are full so expect prices to drop. Car dealers are now advertising below invoice on in stock vehicles to move them and rv’s will be right behind them.
