Initial deposit when ordering new RV
What amount are most dealers requiring as a deposit when ordering a new RV? Are most dealers charging a set amount for the deposit regardless of the price of the new one or will it be a % of the new MSRP?

A dealer we recently got a quote from wanted $2500 deposit prior to placing an order. The amount of the deposit was the same regardless of the price of the RV.

I asked a local dealer today what he requires to order and his response was 5% of the actual purchase price.

Looks like from the responses so far it's up to the dealer. When DW and I purchased our one year old Georgetown, which wasn't at the dealer yet because the trade family's new rig wasn't in, they wanted 1000 from us

Thanks for all those replys. 5% deposit would be about $14K on the one we're looking at. In 2004 when we purchased our current coach I don't remember what the dealer wanted but I remember telling him it was too much and I offer him $2K which was about 1 1/2%, and he took it, making $5K today about right.
When we was looking for our 2004 one of the dealers in Oklahoma City said he required 20% down. I ran for the door.

I think the whole idea is for the dealer to be sure he isn't going to be 'stuck' with a unit added to his inventory because someone walks away from the deal before the special order unit arrives to the dealership. Understandable given today's market and the $ involved.
I would think any reasonable amount would work in most cases.

Rich & Susan,
I'm in the process of ordering a 2015 DS 4369. What dealer are you using and do you recommend?
Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick,
We ordered through RVONE in Albany. We did the deal at the Hershey show in September. To be on the safe side I sent RFP to six other dealers. 4 replyed. None came close to our deal. We are only 2hrs from Newmar so we are doing factory delivery. We spent time at the factory working out the special details and working with Michelle Howard was great. Jordan Keough is our rep. He has been
a pleasure to work with. Best of luck!
