Insurance - Good Sam vs others??

Any one extremely satisfied or dissatisfied with Good Sam RV insurance vs other companies. I’m using Progressive now and would rather hear a good Sam reference from a fellow RVer than their sales force.
Thx,

I've had their insurance from time to time. GMAC decided they do not want to do business in my zip code (high rates). Never had a claim. I've had to change insurance companies once every couple of years. They seem to think getting a new customer is easier than keeping the one they have. I mention this only because for me, there is no long term relationship with an insurance company. All other variables being equal, zip code determines your rates.

Good Sam Insurance

We tried to get their insurance on a 5er we left in FL for the summer. They said no to the insurance so they lost a customer. Progressive gave us a policy so we went with them. I also tried AARP but when they found I had a CC dually they said they won't insure anything over 10,000 lbs so I told them they wouldn't insure my trailer either.

When a tree tipped over and totaled our rig in the Ocala area:

RIGHT BETWEEN THE FAN BLADES

GUESS WE CAN REACH THOSE CUPBOARDS NOW

NOTE THE BRANCH STICKING IN THE ENTRANCE DOOR

The woman we reported it to, located in Tallahassee, insisted that we tow it to a dealer to be appraised. Explaining again that the trailer was pinned to the ground by a huge tree with limbs through the roof and one of the slides she asked “what’s a slide”. She then explained that they had no one to respond to the campground so I would have to send pictures and she would attempt to determine the damages form them.

A call to their HQ’s resulted in a return can from the woman, now very short and curt, stating she would attempt to get someone to us.

Having not heard back form her by the next afternoon I called her and learned that a man from Orlando had to attend a meeting on Ocala in two days and he would stop by on his way home. She further explained that his area of expertise was automobile accidents but felt sure he could appraise an RV.

To keep this from getting any longer, three weeks later, after a round trip to Jacksonville to speak to someone in person we received our check, got our new rig and headed home.

All the way I kept saying over and over, RV insurance through Good Sam and they don’t have an appraiser in Florida during the winter.

On arrival in CNY the second thing I did was cancel them, the first was open the front door of the stick house.

We've been with Foremost Insurance Co. now for 15 years and although we've had several claims, one for over $9k with others mostly windshield replacements, our premiums have never increased.

I have had Good Sam (GMAC) a couple of times over the years and have not really been satisfied. Mostly because of their cost. I am with a firm in Iowa (Farm and City insurance) which carries serveral different major companies insurance. I was under progressive but the agent determined that nationwide was much cheaper in my case. FYI I home base out of Florida and they cover both RV and CC truck licensed in FL. All contact with the firm (highly rated) can be done via internet/phone.

Cannonman that is odd. I pay annual and have not had price increase. of course that may change the next time around. Also i have not had any claims against the company other than to notify them when my truck was rear ended in VA last november. They contacted the other insurance company and made arrangements in conjuction with the other insurance for repairs. All I had to do was take the truck to repair shop (my choice of shops) and drop it off and pick up the loaner car from the shop. Never had that good of experience with any other insurance company over the years.

I have Pemco here in Washington and pay less than Progressive,All-state,or any others I have looked at. I have had several claims on the TTs we had and never had a raise.I had one where I took out an awning leg by hitting a traffic barrel on the freeway after dodging a passing Fed-ex truck and the awning started to unfurl...Since they didn't have an adjustor in the area, they told the shop to take pix and fax them to them and OK'd the claim right there. Now that's service.

In PA insurance isn't required on a trailer. It is considered part of the tow vehicle so if you are brave enough you don't need it at all. I would never go without it as the cost of replacement is to high .

So, as we can see, it greatly depends on what state we are in as to which company is less and works best. I had a claim on hail damage with National. I got a terrible woman to deal with and it took almost two years to get it all taken care of.

I now have Progressive, but have not had a major claim.

We had GMAC thru good sam I had a minor no fault accident in dec as we pay by the year and it was a no fault with no one paying a dime I forgot about it well in june when I call GMAC for a renewal quote they had doubled my yearly premium when I enquired why I was told because I had an accident in dec I asked if GMAC had payed any money on that accident she said no well then why are my rates double because you had an accident you can see were this is going needless to say we will not be going with GMAC I found comparable ins from another vender for about what I payed last year and they only cared about the accidents that were claimed not the ones not reported or payed
