Insurance price increase
I have just received my annual bill for insuring my 2007 Diplomat. Not having claimed on the insurance i didn't expect the price to go up, but to my surprise there is a 25% increase - from just over $1,000 to just over $1,250. My insurance is with Progressive.
I therefore called my supposedly independent insurance broker at Lazy Day's and they said they would check it out for me and work out another quote. A day later they come back and say that insuring with a company other than Progressive will add $900 to the price I have been given already, i.e. about $2,150.
The broker tell me that EVERYBODY with an RV insurance with Progressive have had a 25% increase this year, and that he can do nothing to improve this price.
Question:
Have everyone been charged 25% more or is he pulling the wool over my eyes?
Someone will probably now tell me to go and ask this or that other insurance company for a better quote, but we are now back to the fact that we are "alians" ( Danish people without a social security number and no fixed US address) so most insurance companies will not even talk to us on this background. What I really need to find out is if the 25% Progressive increase is a sad fact of life or if the broker is being too economical with the truth.

Don't like hearing this. I also have Progressive, but my yearly bill isn't due for a month or so. Maybe they have us all hooked with line and sinker on their actual cost replacement value of the M/H. I'll let you know when I get mine.

Give Farm and City Insurance Services a call.
Many of us are very satisfied with them.
They are a broker and are familiar with several insurance company's rates.

I encountered the same problem when my Progressive policy came up for renewal in February. After looking at several companies I ended up going with Farm and City. I have the same coverage and the cost was just over half of the Progressive policy. I know several people who are also with them and have been happy.

Call Progressive. They like to increase the rate and see if you will challenge it. They have a very unique credit rating system. Call and question the increase and they will usually drop the rate.

When the insurance bill comes in with a 25% increase they are trying to tell you something: GO SHOPPING!
Places to check includ AEON, Gico, Nationwide, Primerica (Selected states) and any other insurance company. Even AAA
NO, I don't sell auto / RV insurance

We also have Progressive as the insurer of our MH and our bill had a significant increase in April at renewal. I called and talked to several people, getting zero satisfaction. The story was that last year they had significant payouts and petitioned to the Texas insurance commission for an increase which they were allowed (we are TX residents). I asked about no claims, continuous service/coverage, etc. to no avail. I did make sure they were all very aware of how pissed I was.
However, I called back 2 to 3 weeks later on a different matter and in the course of conversation, I was told that she checked our account and we were eligible for some sort of discount and they refunded $165. That was just over half of the prior increase we saw in April. You might try calling back later to see if it works for you.
Before you move on to a different company, make sure you are getting apple to apples coverage. Progressive traditionally provides coverage in Mexico which is important to us. Not all companies do that.

Dirk posted a good recommendation for you to call Farm & City. I have had the coach insured through them for years. Different insurance companies, but always through Farm & City. They seem to get the best rate for the coach.
I left Liberty Mutual Insurance (for my autos) earlier this year. They raised my rates, for no reason. For me, when a company is no longer competitive it tells me they no longer want my business.

As a follow up, each year Farm and City compares my rates with all of the companies they represent to see if I can get a better deal.
I have National Interstate insuring the rig and Allied, a Nationwide subsidiary, insuring my toad, both through F&C.

My Progressive Insurance went up about 25%+ also from last year. I have spent the last month talking to every insurance company that insures RV's and nobody could beat it or even come close to it. I talked to Progressive to no avail. I have an excellent credit rating, no tickets or accidents and have zero deductibles from Progressive for good behavior, doesn't matter!

Follow up #2.
I received a lower rate on my National Interstate insurance through F&C than I did from National Interstate directly.
Rates vary wildly.
There are so many variables, that two of us cannot compare rates.
What may be a low rate for me, may not be the lowest rate for another.
You MUST shop around.

Have now called Progressive and it took me the better part of 25 seconds to get $100 off the price. So much for the independent insurance agent who could do nothing at all. At least Lazy Day's are consistent - they are consistently not preforming well at all.
Thank you for all your suggestions. Again, the problem is that we can't shop around like the rest of you since not many companies are prepared to insure "alians".

I also had a hefty increase in my premium with Progressive. I checked with several other insurance companiew and I could have saved a lot of money but would not get full replacement value if something happened. I am still getting full replace value from Progressive for this year then it will change and I will probably go with another insurance company.

If Progressive would cut their TV commercials by 50%, they could pass on the saving to their customers. Think I have 'em all memorized by now
