Insurance Renewal

I have seen many posts about people renewing their insurance and the rates increase significantly. I bought a 2020 Tiffin Allegro RED 37BA last December and got many quotes, went with Progressive (through USAA) for $1,479 annually. This morning received an email from Progressive with my renewal notice and the rate went down to $1,438 (both prices are paid in full one time payments). I was very pleased that my insurance actually went down (no claims except a minor glass claim which Safelite was able to put resin in to fill the quarter sized chip) after reading many posts that the second (or subsequent) year rates had increased.

Is there a question here or is this merely sharing information.

Our policies for our cars and separate RV policy went down at renewal this year also. Our renewal was in July.

The rates went down because costs went down for insurance companies as people did not drive as much this year because of Covid. Plus, I also received a small refund check from the insurance co. back in May.

No complaints on my end.

For us, it took four years before Progressive went to an outrageous rate, almost double what we were paying. No accidents or changes in our credit score in the interim. We were seeing others experience the same thing......huge increase at the five year mark.

With that said, EVERY person's experience is different, by state, driving record, credit score, etc. When we got the Progressive increase we checked around and found, FOR US, AAA in California was a better deal than the original Progressive deal. At the time we went with Progressive, we had just bought our first new diesel pusher and AAA was not insuring diesel pushers, even though we had our cars with them. Now, there prices have been the best, FOR US, even after I check around.

So the moral of the story.....always shop around and never believe that you owe an insurance company any kind of alliance, as they will never show alliance to you....they're just a business.

Agree on the shopping around. I did that last year when we first purchased and Progressive (through USAA) was the best by about $100. I was expecting the price to increase, and surprised when it did not. I knew the renewal was coming up very soon and was prepared to do my "shopping" but when the quote came back lower I went ahead and just renewed.

I dumped Progressive a long time ago. A gravel truck in front of us opened its tailgate and thousands of rocks came out. Progressive tried to say each separate rock was a different collision and a deductible will apply to each one. There were hundreds. That took a lot of arguing for them to finally fix it like they were supposed to. Then they raised the rates $3000, so I called them and told them to put them back or I was going to cancel. The guy I talked to told me I couldn't cancel so I told him watch this, and canceled it. Been with Gieco ever since and they've been fine.

I recently read an article that suggested that more and more insurance companies are penalizing customers with higher prices due to customer loyalty...it's called "Price Optimization". This practice is an analytical technique consumer groups say allow carriers to identify customers least likely to comparison shop and charge them more for the same policies.

Last month, our insurance for both cars and RV got bumped up by $250(6 mo. policies) with no changes in policy stats. We were able to get the RV insured yearly and 6 month policies for the cars and saved just shy of $600.00 a year...this was from GEICO to Progressive.

Pays to shop...

I was with USAA and got bumped to Progressive for a full timer policy. Any suggestions for comparison shopping?

Miller Insurance is the place to go for full-timers. They're very experienced in that segment of population and will search for the best deal for you. Of course, once you find a reasonable rate you'll have to check every couple years for a better deal as they all increase after a time.
