Intellect EMS vs Progressive EMS amp reading

Is it common for the amp draw be different on these 2 systems? I was test running a 2200w portable Gen to see what I could run with it and the Intellect EMS showed a 12A draw, while my hardwired PI 50A EMS showed 4A on the 1 leg, 0 on the other while running the portable Gen. with 1 of the A/Cs on. I would think both legs on the PI EMS should equal the Intellect EMS amp display.

Does portable generator have a ground connection, or one of those neutral/ground adapters?

I had to plug in my N/G plug, otherwise the PI EMS wouldnt pass current do to an open ground.

Right, but I believe the OP is using a portable generator and thus has the shore cord plugged to it.

I can't figure any way the Intelletec EMS could see more amps than the Progressive. Unless maybe the inverter was running and feeding some of the branch circuits? The Intellect is reading off the neutral in the load center, while the Progressive is directly measuring L1 & L2.

This is correct. Using a small portable Gen to see what I can get away with stead of using the larger Gen for different occasions. More of a curious it’s thing. But now I gotta do some in-depth testing with my clamp meter. Dont have an inverter.

"PI 50A EMS showed 4A on the 1 leg, 0 on the other"

The PI 50A EMS is clearly not reading the A/C draw. It is either defective, wired wrong, or being operated wrong. Maybe is set to read only certain circuits.

I thought gen/power cord were separate ----I miss read OP post

Portable Gen>>>>RV Power Cord>>>>PI EMS>>>>Main Power Panel/Intellect EMS

PI and Intellect should read Same

Would be interesting to see what PI Displays when connected to Shore Power ----and compare to Intellect EMS

PI defective as it doesn't have settings...Power IN/Power OUT
Contact PI for Warranty/Repairs

I will have to do some more testing next week when we go camping and it’s plugged into 50A, and then try a 50-30 adapter for comparison. I ha e to believe the 50A use should show a difference on each leg since it’s 2 lines, whereas the 30A se should be equal since the legs are tied together in the adapter. Correct?

30A adapter has One Hot that is jumpered to the Two Hot legs in 50A

Each Hot Leg can have different amp draws due to what is on each leg ...up to 30A total
