Inverter and shore power?

We just had a few quick in succession brief power outages where we are parked. It caused the tv and sat to go out and have to reset each time. It got me to wondering if putting on the inverter with shore power plugged in would act as a backup power since the TV and sat both run on inverter powered outlets?

It seems to me that when the shore power goes out the transfer switch would allow the inverter to keep the power flowing from the inverter. Right or wrong?

Right. We leave the inverter on all the time and never lose power.

We also leave the inverter on all the time. The only downside, when there is a power failure, you won't know unless you had something turned on that is not on the inverter, like A/C.

Seems most folks leave the inverter on all the time regardless of shore power or not. That's how we do it. If you don't have a good surge protector you should get one.

When at home I turn the inverter off and put a light on in the MH window that's right out side the stick house kitchen window. Just a glance tells me if the power in the MH is still on. Ran my batteries down when I left the inverter on and didn't know the power was out.

Thanks for the info, looks like we will be leaving the inverter on. We do have a good surge protector which is why I was not particularly concerned about the power outages and the surges that can come with them.

Good point. I turn my inverter on when on the road, otherwise only when it is needed. It is using power any time it is on, even in the "standby" mode. I see no point in using that power (especially in storage where power is limited) and subjecting the inverter to unnecessary wear and tear. I checked with Magnum, they said either way is acceptable.
