Inverter Fan
I just installed a Xantrex Freedom 2000 inverter and it seems to be working ok but…. The inverter cooling fan seems to always be running even when it is only in the float charging mode. Outside temp is mid 80’s. Are these inverters designed for the cooling fans run continuously or for prolonged periods of time?

I tend to believe the internal cooling fan(s) shouldn't run constantly. I have a Magnum 2800w inverter. A few months back it often ran into overheat scenario. I opened the box and found a failed fan of the two. Replaced that and now it runs smoothly. The fans are running when temp gets above a certain degree.

The manual says the fans should turn "on" momentarily when the system starts up. So, with no converting, charging, or inverting, the fans should be "off".
Check for 120 volt appliances consuming high current when running on batteries. Fans will run under high inverting conditions. Switch "off" sub-panel circuit breakers to stop inverting. Fans should stop after a cool down period.
Check for 12 volt appliances consuming high current when running on shore power. Fans will run under high converting load. 12 volt refrigerator, block heaters, and such can draw high current.
Battery charging may cause fans to run until late stages of charging. It takes 10 hours or more to fully charge lead acid batteries.

If your batteries are tired/sick it could be charging continuously.
If you can disconnect the path from the charger to the batteries via a fuse or switch to take the load off for a few minutes check it then.

You might measure your house battery voltage, to confirm that it's actually supplying a proper "float" voltage - should be around 13.5 volts.
If it's much higher than that, the charger will be working pretty hard to maintain them at the higher voltage - and thus the fan will be running more often.

The batteries I have are flooded and are one month old four 6 vote batteries, 230 Amp Hours each. They are wired correctly for 12 volts and 460 Amp Hours. I turned off the shore power for a few minutes and turned it back on. The fans ran a couple minutes then turned off. I am not sure why the fans stayed on for at least a couple days but I hope no damage occurred.

Did you install the inverter in a closed compartment with limited air flow?

An inverter/charger works harder when the charge or discharge current is higher not voltage.

Nope… inverter is in open area of basement with plenty of space for air flow.
