Inverter stuff....again

Late yesterday I lost my 50amp service at the pole (CG). The breaker gear is under lock and key with the ranger having the only access. Since it was late I opted to run the generator. The gen set fired right up...no issues! Seeing my batteries were in good shape to carry us through the night ( mid-twenties) I shut the generator down and decided to use the inverter. However, I am not so sure I ever realized any power from the gen set while it was running. My control board for the inverter read the whole time' inverting', while the gen set was running!. When I shut the gen down I had 12.4 volts showing on the inverter board. Its sounds confusing but I was using the gen set and decided to use the inverter. Hope I made sence! Have any of you experienced this? Got my breaker replaced today and everything looks to be working like it should .The shore power as well as the inverter are re-charging the batteries. Any info here is as always appreciated.(P.S.) I might add the 50amp breaker was bad at the locked breaker box!

How long did you run the generator? There are delay circuits that might not have allowed time for the inverter to recognize it could connect directly and shut down. These delays could be in the connection between house and chassis systems, the inverter, etc. Also, it takes longer than you'd think to charge the batteries back to full strength.

Also, you reported a voltage of 12.4 volts, which is less than 80% charged. If the charger was putting power into the batteries while generator was running, you should have read voltages of 13.4v or more.

Batteries also take time to absorb a charge and can read high if they have just been charged and no load is on them.

If the inverter display said "inverting", then the genset either wasn't producing power or the power wasn't reaching the distribution panel. Could be the breaker(s) on the genset itself have tripped, or your auto-transfer switch did not flip to the genset source as it should.

Now that everything is working, shut off shore power at the post, start the generator and see if it goes to charge, after the 30 second transfer switch delay.

If it don't and you checked the generator breakers, you have a problem with the generator or transfer switch.

Go back to CG power and deal with it when you can.
