There have been but they had overheating problems and no real benefit for the higher cost.

Do a Google search for gas pusher motorhomes, several manufactures produced them for a few years. If I remember correctly they had a problem over heating and demand was low.

I just thought they would be quieter in the back.

Here's another just wondering. What happened to the entrance being in the middle, instead it looks like all the diesels have gone to the passenger door entry.

Because the fuel tank would need to be huge?

There are gas pushers, I own and drive one.
They are the best gas chassis ever built.
They don't over heat.
The gas tank is 100 gallons.
They came out just before the housing crash and then GM stopped producing the 8.1 Vortec motor. They never had a chance to catch on.
The only downsides in my opinion is no air ride and I can only tow 4000 pounds which limits my choice of tow vehicles.

If you can put the entry door somewhere other than the middle, it gives you a great deal more flexibility in floor plan design. Builders of DPs tend to put the door in the front because they can-- there's no engine doghouse blocking the floor.
