Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall

Since every RV comes with a fire extinguisher, here's notice of a HUGE Kidde fire extinguisher recall involving fire extinguishers built as far back as 1973: https://wtop.com/recalls/2017/11/kid...fires/slide/1/

Edited to add the direct PDF link to the recall:https://s3.amazonaws.com/inmar-adx-f...g+to+Kidde.pdf

That's not going to help their bottom line...

Those 'residential' fire extinguishers do have their purpose, but I've never been a fan of them. The valve and handle assembly is mostly plastic on many of them. My fire extinguisher guy won't re-certify them and definitely won't refill any ones made with the plastic valves.

Many fire department jurisdictions require re-certifying them in an office/warehouse/shop environment at least once a year. Many of the cheap plastic ones will not qualify for that.

Just got mine done. The process is easy: just fill out the form on the Kiddie website if you have an affected model and they'll ship you a replacement.

Just saw this in the morning news. Need to wander around and check the house, workshop, and motorhome...

Thanks for posting the docs and bringing attention.

Thanks, I have a larger #5 (2002) and an Elite 10 in the recall. The Elite came from the factory in our signature coach. Less then a 10 minute wait on the phone. Sending new ones in 15-20 days.

Thank you for this post! I went looking for mine and am embarrassed to report that I can not find mine! I have looked everywhere. Is it not still a requirement for new rvs? I'm heading to the hardware store today! I would complain but I think the factory installed units are too small anyway

So are there any firefighters or other experts out there who can recommend the best quality brand out there for small portable extinguishers? Cost is not a factor. Amerex maybe?

I can't really see replacing my cheapo defective units with same brand cheapo units even if they're free.

So far I found that I have five 8lb ABC extinguishers on the recall list. That's about $300 worth at this point in time.

Needed a helper with young eyes to read the model numbers. I guess they are not that proud of them any more. There was a time when they would have that in big bold print that was easy to read instead of in micro-print.
