If you are stopping at 4 PM you should be in a campground. Walmart is for the folks driving until late in the evening.

Life is to short for 5 hour rest stops and back on the road --- take time to smell the roses. Some of the most interesting sites we have seen is on layovers.

What you are describing is what campgrounds are for. The discussion about WalMart parking lots is not what you are doing.

Some people have places to be... and drive as much as they can to get there. Being able to whip into a parking lot and grab a few hours of sleep is paramount. We pull in late and pull out early. In your scenario, you wouldnít even know we were there. We arenít using the parking lot as part of the experience, we are using it as a pit stop.

What is spent at Walmart is not a payback or gift to Walmart. Value bought equals service rendered, plus fair profit value. Basically itís quid pro quo! And Walmart doesnít track you to see if you buy anything.

Many KOAs offer evening dinners for sale. That or stopping to get a take-out meal meal on the way to the park are basically the same.
