Latest towing options

I hate to admit it but I'm on my way to retiring. On the bright side, my wife and I are finally planning trips this year that we may actually relax. To keep the conversation to the point, I'm looking to flat tow my 99 Dakota, Automatic trans 4X4 manual transfer case. I'm used to towing an enclosed trailer that didn't involve the things we are going to have now. We have a 2002 Winnebago, I'm looking for the best tow hitch for the Dakota and a wireless lighting system. I could hard wire the Dakota, but like I said I'm headed to retirement: work smarter not harder.

Locate a Blue Ox dealer/installer from the Blue Ox website. They have everything you need.

Thank you for your input. I started searching tow hitches and Blue OX came up. I got to thinking, the previous owner left part of the tow hitch and wouldn't you know it: it's a Blue OX. So now I just need the bracket for the truck for 500 some bucks and I'm ready to rock. Still wondering about wireless tow light setups though.

Don't forget a good Break-Away braking system for the Dakota

Consider NSA Readybrute Elite. It's tow bar and braking system in one. A cable with sleeve is installed in toad pulls on brake pedal . some owners just add Ready Brake to other brand tow bars.
You can find many posts and utube vids. Members here have come up a few DIY improvements.

I'm leaning more to the NSA, I like the idea of being able to connect/disconnect quicker. I already have the blue OX tow bar,

If you already have a tow bar, the cost for a new one with braking built into it is about the same as a portable supplemental braking system.

If you don't mind losing out on remote control features of most portables then a simple mechanical tow bar braking system is for you.

A portable braking system will take you an extra 60 seconds each tjme to connect and disconnect so it's not like your saving 10 minutes a day.

Little bit confused, though. If you want quicker connect and disconnect times a wireless tow light system is going to consume extra time to setup and take down. Definitely more time needed to setup and take down than a portable supplemental brake system.

I am guessing a 99 Dakota doesn't have LED rear lights? If that's the case the wiring harness to it should be easier and simpler, then your done with the rear lights.

None of these setup times are prohibitive in my mind. It's all a matter of your personal preferences

Personally, I like technology, but some things not so much. One of those would be wireless taillights. There are many things on the road, especially in Metropolitain areas that can interfere with the signal. Once the lights are wired, you're done.
