Leaky window

Hi all, I posted a few weeks ago about seals going bad on my windows. After some recent rain fall it’s worse than expected. On several windows I’m finding water intrusion on the bottom of the window. I’ve identified a break in some kind of barrier. Any tips or resources on how to remedy this? Please see attached photo.

On another window the water is coming from the top of the window. Seems the be coming from “inside”. What that would be indicative of a failed seal that I would use butyl rope for?

I'm guessing that picture is sideways. The water may be getting in and around the seal. You could try some polyurethane sealant in the area you are pointing at. Pull the rubber away from the glass, clean it with alcohol and squeeze in the poly. You will probably need new seals eventually.

You could have 2 or 3 different problems. A proper diagnosis is sometimes hard to achieve.

The first thing I would check are weep openings.

Windows may have weep openings at the bottom to allow water that gets behind the rubber gasket to escape. When they clog up with debris water may build up in the channel on the inside, overflow the channel, and run down the walls.

Clean weep openings with any small diameter make shift tool. Tooth picks, small gauge wire, etc. Flush with soap and water.

On your window appearing to leak from the top, I would check those weep openings too but also look at any outer rubber window gasket that's come out of its channel. Sometimes dirt gets behind gaskets and forces them out of their channel. Remove the gasket and clean the channel and gasket. You can apply clear RTV in the channel and push the gasket back into the channel. Do not block the weep openings.

Clean gaskets and their channels with soap and water and soft bristle brushes.

If your gaskets are good and tight in the channel after all this then look for openings between the window gasket and sidewall. Sometimes it's a simple matter of cleaning that seam and caulking - I use Proflex RV caulk.

If you still have a leak after this take pictures of the window and where you see or suspect a leak inside and outside and let us know
