LEDs and migraines

I have a history of migraines. Bought a new 5th wheel that only has LEDs. I have notice when I come back, headache starts. The LEDs are not bulbs but multiple little flat LEDs per fixture.

Is there a replacement filament type bulb I could use to replace them? Migraine meds work but side effects are pretty intense.

Migraine headaches

I take a medication daily that keeps my blood vessels evenly dilated in my head. Once in a while I get half a headache and take sumatryptin. If the headache isn't gone in two hrs. I can take one more pill. This works very well for me.

I would imagine the light fixtures are 12v powered. You should be able to wire sockets and bulbs into the fixture, or replace the light fixture with 12v incandescent versions.

You could also explore using different colored LEDs. The harsh blue/white LEDs of 6000K and higher might be replaced with the 'warmer' colors of 4000K or below. I don't get migraines, but don't like the blue/white hot LEDs, I get eye strain from the harsh colors.

It’s the color spectrum of the leds, you can get differnt temperature led bulbs, lower temp 3200-4K bulbs should help, they are a warmer light then that harsh white in the 6k and higher

I have chronic migraines. I recently upgraded all the bulbs in our motorhome to LEDs with no adverse affects on my migraines. However, any flickering of the light can set off a migraine for me.

Since you have a new rig, I wonder if there could be a wiring issue (or cheap bulbs) which are flickering at a rate which is not very noticeable, but can kick of the migraine.

I just moved into a 5er myself with the LED lights. What I find bothers me the most is the high pitched sound from the USB outlets. Hurts my ears. But I have ridiculous hearing--I can hear those rodent repellent devices that humans are not supposed to hear. Anyway, these newfangled things are not always so healthy in some ways, it seems. Too bad to have to rip out our lights and USB plugs!

We really dislike those LEDs for the harsh light they put out.

Late wife hated the cool white lights. went to warm white and that worked. I tried cool and natural white but ended up using warm white in the present rig except for the throne cubicle.

If they are 12v put a ground loop isolator on the input wires, they are used in car stereos for that exact reason. I’m in the same boat, I can’t stand high pitch whines and certain light refresh frequencies

I'd think the numerous chemicals outgassing in a new coach would be a more likely culprit. You are literally surrounded by LED lighting these days.

You could be right but since I have known issues with LED lights, those are on the top of my list. When we were looking at our camper it was daylight and all the blinds were up. I just as not specifically looking at the light fixtures in the ceiling. Most were not on.

I got rid of all my LEDs at our home, only watch an older TV, cannot go to a movie theater anymore, rarely drive at night due to LEDs on newer cars, etc. I have MS and have occular migraines, see a neurologist regularly. I have an apt to see an optometrist to see if there is such a thing as glasses or contacts that will filter out the offending spectrum.

The leds in the den part of our 5er are much softer than those over the dinette, bath. Those are like looking at the sun. Maybe I can swap them out.

In the old days we used to paint the bulb or the cover of the bulb with nail polish to change the color.

If it not possible to change the LED, you might be able to cover it with a film or transparent paint to change the color to something more pleasing.

I found that a few of the cheap LED's pulsed slightly in my rig and would start giving me a headache. Simply replacing the units took care of my problems.
I also found that every fixture was wired with the correct polarity and my factory dimmer worked with even the cheapest bulbs out there other than the few that flickered slightly.
