Fuel prices won't change my plans. I may be alone at the dunes, but I will still go.

This year marks our 35th anniversary. We are going to Grand Canyon and points west in September come hell or high water or $5/gallon gas. I figured 4000 miles r/t @ $5/gallon worst case would be ~ $2300 bucks. Sounds like a lot (and it is!) but considerably less than a trip to Europe or Asia, which we had considered. Plus we have our own bed.

Hotels are already creeping over $175 a night for the cheap ones on the Interstates... $3.50 gas doesnt seem so expensive..

It's been $2.98 in Greer SC. Never thought it would go below $3.00.

That's part of the problem. People expect it to stay high, so they keep it high and people accept it. Just like when the news says to expect $X.XX this summer and people just accept it. Planned gouging.

Here's an interesting graph. Notice since 2007 or so the close correlation between U.S. gasoline prices and the S&P 500. Global economic health is a close predictor of global consumption (demand), and as one would expect, price follows demand. The recent easing of prices corresponds to the slump in the S&P as well.

What really pisses me off is gas has usually been with 4-5 cents of Little Rock, Panhandle of Florida, and other places I have been watching. Now has in little rock is 2.99 and Tucson is 3.46! While gas has went down 50 cents in these areas in the last month Tucson's has went down 19! It is bs! There is no reason for it! Arizona also has the 5th lowest gas tax in the nation (18.6) so there is no reason it shouldn't be around the same if not lower!

Here in Blythewood SC, all three gas stations are owned by the same guy. The two at the interstate exit have regular for 3.19. Half a mile around the corner (where they pump it for you), $2.99.
