Letter of Compliance for US Customs

I am a Canadian with an Okanagan 5th wheel we store in the US. It does not have a DOT sticker as it was built and sold in Canada, but Okanagans are DOT compliant and if sold to the US had a DOT sticker too. I am trying to get a “soft registration” (not for resale) so I can plate it. We have US insurance for the unit but need registration for plates.

US Customs advises we need a letter of compliance from the manufacturer indicating DOT compliance, but as Okanagan has gone out of business that presents a challenge. Customs believes there is a Canadian agency that provides letters of compliance for defunct Canadian manufacturers but they don’t have a name. I have Googled for hours and checked dealers but can’t find the agency. Can anyone help me out?

Have you checked with the Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association? I guess that's where I'd start with such a problem. If the Dealer you bought the RV from is still in business they might also have some information that could help.

Airstream bought out Okanagan, we had a 1988 Type B Okanagan. Not sure if Airstream has any info on the 5th wheels though.

I would check with customs and see if it can be inspected by someone they approve and have it certified that way.
