UPDATE:

Woke up this morning at 4 AM to call Florida DMV at 4:30 Pacific Time, 7:30 Eastern Time. Sat on hold for 1/2 hour. Lady came on phone, gave her my case number. She stated the case was closed 02/15/2019, four days after the sending of the "Order of Suspension" dated 02/11/2019. She said it was closed based upon a fax received 02/15/2019.

My insurance company had not faxed anything since 12/12/2018. It took over 2 months for the fax to go from their fax machine to the resolution desk. She was not able to provide an explanation for the two month delay.

I requested a letter stating that the case was closed, her answer "We don't do that!"

Which is why I would follow the advice that was offered for free by a Judge/Attorney. Never underestimate the stupidity of government. Doing what he says, shows you addressed it, and gives you proof of compliance.

Clearly the advice of TXTiger is the one to follow given his background.

I would like to offer an "Underline" to his statements about letters rather than phone calls when dealing with the DMV, Tax office, or any other Government agency for that matter. You may find it easier to call and have a conversation, but there is little or no record of that ever happening. Letters assuming you keep copies of all, are a record and show proof of an event happening. Phone calls at best are documented in your file by the agency you are dealing with. I say at best because in almost never happens and if it does, its rarely for your benefit.
i won't go into the details of my situation with the CA Tax board, when i moved from CA to TX and Back to CA three years later. But i ended up spending a huge amount of time sending fax'd copies of all the communications, paying for a Tax specialist to write letters thru a lawyer to get cleared up a demand for monies from CA for tax's in years i was not a resident of CA. They still have >$3k of my money that it was recommended to just let it go. Which i did.
Conversations are fine, but documents are so much more powerful in any debate over the merits of an issue.
I would also caution many on this board to not say, "oh you are fine just let it go". Unresolved issues can come back to you with razor sharp teeth.

My experience as a Florida resident purchasing an RV in Texas - Florida would not issue a temporary tag so I had to register the RV and pay the sales tax to Texas. Stupid Florida, I'd say. Then a year later I got a notice my driver's license had been suspended for failure to insure the RV - turned out it was a clerical error on the part of the insurance company switching two letters in my VIN. I had to pay a "fine" to Florida, they said it was cleared up as I had been insured the entire time, then 3 months later when I wanted to change insurance companies State Farm denied me because I had had a license suspension within the past 3 months! It was a week shy of being dumped from my record time-wise, but I had to jump through hoops for FDOT. Their policy at the time was your licence was suspended from the day they mailed the notice, so I had driven around with a suspended license for 3 days clueless. They now give you 20 days grace - hell, I could have been arrested! You have to deal with the DMV in your home state - they are the only ones who can straighten this out IMO. Peter

No registration

In Florida this usually happens because the dealer does not have the title to transfer your tag. They most likely could not get it or took a chance on selling it. This is my experience in Florida - from experience as a dealer and as a court officer.

=rfkurtz;4639996]Need help with this dilemma. I am a resident of California and have a California Drivers License. In September of 2018 I went to LaMesa RV in Fort Meyers, Fl. The unit was pre-owned and listed at a very attractive price. I drove the RV back to California. I financed this through my Credit Union.

LaMesa RV took care of the paperwork to get temporary Florida plates while the paper work was being processed for California Registration. The temporary Florida registration and plates were valid for 30 days. My insurance company provided verification of insurance to LaMesa RV so they could get the temporary registration. For an unknown reason, the temporary plates needed to be renewed 3 times through Florida. LaMesa RV Port St. Lucie took care of the Florida DMV each time.

I received a notice for clarification from Florida DMV, which I complied with in the appropriate time frame. The beginning of this month I received another request with a threat of suspension. I notified LaMesa RV and they contacted Florida DMV who told them that everything was OK and that the item was closed. I did not get anything from LaMesa RV in writing, I accepted LaMesa RV's verbal statement, silly me. The verbal confirmation took place 02/06/2019.

Yesterday, 02/16/2019, I received a letter dated 02/11/19 that was a "Notice Of Suspension."

I have an email sent to LaMesa RV Tag and Title guy, and a call left on his answering machine.

Has anyone else experienced this dilemma? Is not LaMesa RV liable to this?[/QUOTE]

Just wanted to comment on how well my adventure went. I purchased and financed my 2017 Bay Star at Independence RV in Florida. Before I drove out the F&I person gave me “all” the documentation including proof of the tax payment and the 30 day temp tag and reg. When I got back to Idaho it was a simple 10 minute procedure to have them check the VIN verify the insurance and give me my permanent plates. I would do it again, but will always make sure I have all the documents or copies in hand. Sorry for your frustration with GOVERNMENT!

Once CA provided you your tile and plates they also notified FL DMV who in turn notified you that the temp plates and registration was no longer valid (suspended).

For peace of mind you need to call FL DMV, the number is on your letter of suspension. Verify all is well.

Best wishes - Richard

GO TO THE FLORIDA DMV

register a complaint against La Mesa....use the words misrepresentation..title fraud...and non-compliance with Fla DMV laws

DMV in Fla is tough.. they will take away the motor vehicle license of La Mesa, if the dealer does not make you whole

something WILL happen , if your facts are right

There’s a very simple explanation this thread was originally put in new member introductions and since it included a question that would not get much attention in that forum it was moved to this Forum for better exposure which it has received. In the process of the thread move a “moved icon” left in Intros which allowed for the welcome replies as well.

Wow! Only one guy on this forum got it right. To reiterate, I'll simply paraphrase what he said with a summary from the OP's own posts:

1) The OP provided proof of insurance to FLA in order to obtain a temporary vehicle registration that would allow the OP to drive the vehicle back to California, his official state of residence.

2) Upon arrival in California, the OP applied to register his newly purchased vehicle in California.

3) The Florida temporary registration expired before California issued the CA registration, so the OP applied to FLA for an extension of his FLA temporary registration... which was granted.

4) California finally got around to register the OP's vehicle and in turn notified the state of Florida's DMV that the vehicle was now registered in California.

5) Florida's DMV receives a notification from California's DMV, notifying them of the change in registration.

6) Since a vehicle can only be registered in one state at a time, the Florida DMV notifies the OP that his Florida registration is no longer valid.

So.... the process worked. You can't have your (non-commercial) vehicle simultaneously registered in multiple states, so the OP's Florida registration was suspended/canceled.

La Mesa should had collected your sales taxes (one option) gave you the nescessary paper work for to finish the registration in your home state, option two with paper work in hand you should had go directly to your home state DMV and have it registered, now it’s a lot of variables in this mix the we the peanut gallery don’t know, was the the tittle clear when you purchased? Why did you wait so long to register in your home state, did you leave anything out of this explanation? Your home state wants only one thing bill of sale, fees or taxes whatever they want to called, tittle of vehicle ( you register the lien) go to your State DMV and talk to them.
