Locking Screen Door.
Hello my fellow RVers!
I finally made the move from Michigan to NC...so beautiful!
I love to sleep with the big door open and just the screen closed so i get an amazing breeze and fresh air.. Although i feel like i am at a safe camping area, i would really love to have a way to lock the screen door. Any ideas for this? It may sound silly, i am sure there are ways to do this, but with the sliding panel, i am not sure how to make this work....
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't do any more good than what you're doing now. Screens are easy to cut.

A dog with it's bed by the "big door" would be the way to go.

You could probably add a sliding barrel lock at the top or bottom to keep the wind from blowing it open, but you really can't make a screen door "secure". Maybe adding a solar motion light (available at Harbor Freight and Amazon) outside the door so that if anyone comes up to the door, the light comes on, might make you feel a little better.

good ideas! I should have put in my original post, i know it can't be completely secure as it is a screen door...I was more trying to find a way to give me a heads up from a deep sleep, that someone was trying to get in....I really am not too worried about it were i am currently staying, but was curious if anyone had put some kind of locking mechanism on theirs...Thanks for all the input

The sliding barrel locks at top and bottom are your best bet.
If you install some sort of cross bars across the screen it would also stop anyone from getting ideas.

Most of the RV screen doors are about as flimsy as the manufacturers can make and stay together. For security, you might need to have something special made using heavy duty hardware screening** and a heavier frame up that fastens to awall studs instead of that thin door frame aluminum.
A loud mouth dog always works. One of ours would lick any intruder to insanity(if she actually woke up) while the other yelled loudly at him. Then there is the Dirty Harry version of personal security........

I would agree with others that locking a screen door for safety in an RV is no better than leaving it latched but unlocked. I have never seen a secure screen door on even the highest price RVs. Consider this.......... If you are staying in a campground where others are sleeping in tents, have you ever seen a tent with a locking door? Even if the intruder does awaken you, are you really prepared to protect yourself and your property? You are probably safer when asleep in an RV with only a screen door, than you would be in securely locked house in most cities. If you want security with the screen only closed, get some motion sensor lighting on the outside of your RV.

We did this but it was to make sure the door didn't open inadvertantly and let the cats out. I think the only way to secure your screen door would be to have a security screen door made and installed. We did that at our house, but it was expensive and heavy.

really valid points....especially about the tent  thinking i am over my nervousness....and am sleeping completely fine with door/windows open at night....Thanks all

They also make ones that use a cord to pull a pin. Attach the alarm to the door frame and the cord with the pin to the door.
