Long-term storage
I have to store my country coach in 95° Florida weather for the next couple months. I don't know if there any particular tricks to do this, but I placed Damp-Rid containers throughout the reg, opened cabinets and drawers. Of course the curtains are all pulled down and I'm going to put the solar shade on the windshield. I have two Maxi Vents with covers that theoretically can't allow rain to get in and I'm thinking of opening those but I haven't done that so far.
I have about about a half tank of diesel and getting any more would be difficult from my location. I know there's controversy about diesel fuel additives, but I don't know much about that. I planned to go by at least once every two weeks to start the motor and bring it up to upgrading temperature. The freshwater tank has been treated with Purogene.
I was stunned when I found a big bird dropping on the side of my coach and by the time I was able to get off it left an indelible stain. There are no trees or overhead wires over the rig so I don't quite know how it happened unless the thing perched on my awning cover. I'm going to check it as often as I can.
Any advice on other things to do would be much appreciated.

Is there no electric available? Not even a 15 Amp supply? A 15A would allow you to run one AC to keep the inside dry and keep the batteries charged? When I stored mine I was lucky to have at least 15A service that I could run a 100 ft cord to.
Now I keep mine outside at my house but I ran 50A service to where it is parked.

No matter how inconvenient it is for you, get your fuel tank topped of and full.........
the inconveniences from the results of sitting 1/2 full later will far out weigh what you have to do now to get it full.
Let the engine sit and rest while not using it........... no need to start it.
If no shore power, take the negative terminal's off your batteries........

I have disconnects on both house and coach batteries. Is moisture buildup the problem in the diesel tanks?

I would not rely on the disconnects. As palehorse89 mentioned need to disconnect negative at the batteries.

we store ours at a rv resort in fl. we do not keep it plugged in
we do just what your doing and open vents 5 yrs all ok
i would not leave a rv pluged in to power and leave it there long term
might not be there when you get back [ fire ]

What about filling the tank with ethanol free gas. They have 91 octane near me for $2.99 a gal. I've heard it's better for long term storage with less condensation than other gas with ethanol added. Don't know how true it's is.

The OP has a diesel, and yes.......in the empty space in the tank, moisture is/will be a problem.............fill it so there is no room for moisture to form............especially where you are at!

You have convinced me. It has been stored for two weeks, but I'll dig it out and find a place to fill it. There aren't very many in my region, except for service stations and I'm wary of overhead clearance. I'll ask some local delivery truckers where they get theirs.
BTW...I contacted Cummins. They do not approve or disapprove of any fuel additives, but someone on this forum said Cummins advised running the motor every two weeks.

Running a Diesel engine every couple of weeks really serves no purpose other than to accelerate wear. Most wear on a seldom used engine occurs at startup. Just starting and idling will not get the oil hot enough to burn off the moisture in the oil and when it cools off will only draw more in.

Good advice...full the tank and put a biocide in it...you can get it at any marine store. Do not get an "additive" be sure it's a biocide.
