looking for 12v air compressor
I need a 12v air compressor that will inflate truck@ trailer tires 80lb
found one at Walmart rated at 100lb only gets to 76lb I don't want to spend
a lot on one and I don't want to carry a air tank.
anybody found a good one?

I got one at Pepboys for $60.00 that will bring my 22.5 tires to over 100 if need be.

Only good 12volt that I'm aware of is VIAIR, but they're not cheap. Used all the time for off-roading & large tires.

I bought the VIAIR some time ago and am very happy with it, but as previously stated, it is expensive. I later found one at Harbor Freight that looks EXACTLY like my VIAIR (had to be made by the same company I think) and it was only $75.00. I paid about $270 for mine! Just a suggestion, you might want to check it out! Good luck & God bless!

Duty Cycle is the real issue with 12v compressors. VIAIR is about the only 12v compressor that has a full 100% duty cycle - and you pay for that. I'll bet the Harbor Freight imitation had maybe 20% (which is typical for cheap 12v compressors). Run those cheapies full-on for the 15mins to top off your tire and it'll melt. You get what you pay for with these 12v units.

The other shortcoming with cheaper 12v compressors is air volume, i.e. the cfm rating is low. It's easy to make a compressor that delivers high pressure, but not easy or inexpensive to make one that delivers a high volume of air at high pressure. If the compressor is only squirting out a miniscule amount of air at 89-90 psi, then you have to wait forever to increase the amount of air in a big tire. And that's where the duty cycle bites you - those cheap compressors melt down or seize up or melt their power plug.

I carry a Sears 110volt compressor. Fast, lots of pressure and relativity small. I think I caught it on sale for $90. That's a lot cheaper than the starter on a diesel pusher with on board air, just to air up something.

I got one like this... easy to store in the basement or under your bed. Also works awesome for high pressure tires.
Set the regulator higher than what you need and put a compressor chuck on the end. Have filled a dead flat tire to 100psi in 6 mins. Also put a cheap desiccant filter on the output. High pressure and dry air!

gary bingo i tried the 12 v but got a 110 v 1 gal it takes a bit but im not in a hurry so that said look at the add in trailers live

X2 for the Sear's 1.5. Weights in at half of the pancake I used to carry and it brings our 22.5s back up to 95 psi quickly. If you watch, you can catch 'em on sale for less than $90 bucks. Bob

i picked up this one from sams club:
worked fine, albiet slowly, for adding 10 psi to the duallys in the back. would not want to try airing up a flat tire. might take a week! have not tried the jump start feature, and hope to never need to. kinda like insurance.

Jumped the 12volt to 110????????  every one back to the post 12 volt......LOL just try to stay on track

They make some that claim 250 PSI. never found one that lived up to it's claims.
Frankly... If you have a generator I'd recommend a small portable 120 volt job, Sears sells a 2-gallon (As I recall) pancake style (short fat round tank with pump on top) that claims 150 psi.. It is not kidding. mine cuts out at 160.
