Curious, you're right about a opening and closing of doors. Never figured that some RVs were well insulated.
Our rig is stored on our property so I check to make sure things are working at least once a week. Being that it's my backyard, I'm able to dump (gray tank only) onto the ground if I think I need to. Even after a couple or three months, a gallon, maybe two is all that comes out.

The dehumidifier is working fine. As mentioned, the windows are closed and the door is rarely opened so there's not that much cycling of the dehumidifier after the setpoint is reached.

Almost every time, the dehumidifier is off when I first open the door. It'll start up if the door is left open for even a short time.

Have had this unit for 10 years now. Used it in our boat, and now our motorhome ... has worked flawlessly. You can buy the discharge hose with it, but the right size clear plastic tubing does the same. It plugs in the hole in the back which converts it to continuous drain instead of filling the tank. Set it on automatic and let it do its thing. Click image for larger version

Where I live the gray tank at 1/2 full might cracking from freezing.

Then, use the built in reservoir and empty it as needed.

And, in sub freezing temperatures, not sure mold growth is an issue.

We use a 30 pint in our 38' motorhome when using it. The 0.8 gallon reservoir will fill up overnight in the bedroom, 10 to 12 hours, and we're still in Ohio. This winter will be the first time using it in Florida.

A friend uses a 70 pint in his motorhome and he likes the fact that when it's raining it really keeps the humidity down. On some rainy days he's emptied the two gallon reservoir a couple times a day.

For storage the door will be closed and no one will be exhaling so a smaller unit probably will work out. But there's nothing wrong with a larger unit other than the electric bill.

The "pint" rating is how much water the unit will remove in 24 hours in optimum conditions. DO NOT be fooled by the puny ones that are rated in ounces instead of pints.

You could either drain into a sink or the shower or even just keep the gray valve open. It's just water.

something to be aware of when looking at small dehumidifiers is the operating temperature. there is a wide variance some go down to 60 deg. from their performance drops considerably. then there are ones that can work to below 20deg. all priced about the same. one would think at below 32 deg. the humidity would be nil.
