Lost our ability to Vote!!

We established a mailing address in South Dakota, and have our drivers' license there. We chose SD because we were told they are "RV friendly". We are full timers. We have our motorhome and tag registered there and purchase our insurance there. We filled out a request for absentee ballot for the forthcoming election, BUT WERE DENIED. "....A SOUTH DAKOTA RESIDENCE ADDRESS IS REQUIRED. "
WE ARE BEING DENIED THE ABILITY TO EXERCISE A FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT GIVIEN TO AMERICAN CITIZENS !!! This is hardly "friendly". We don't know where to turn. The cutoff time is fast approaching, and I want to be able to vote, and encourage all of us to do so, as well. Any ideas to help us with this is appreciated. Thanks

Contact your mail forwarding service and ask them for an explanation why your being denied to register for an absentee ballot to vote using their address.

Fact is SD past the law about the address thing as a way to reduce the number of Native Americans voting. It seams many of them have PO boxes. And this is the first case to come before Supreme Court with new justice. We think voters chose our reps, but more and more the politicians are choosing their voters.

I suspect the problem is you want to vote in "local" elections and you dont live there.
We have had a SD address for many years and have had no problem getting an absentee ballot for national elections. IE president, vp etc.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I can certainly understand your frustration! I would contact the senators and congressmen for SD and see what they have to say!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

You buck the system to avoid paying taxes and other fees in your home state and then complain they are not treating you fair. Jim E. OKC, God fearing taxpaying American.

Its funny that people keep citing the falsity that the law targeted the Native Americans. When in fact, most native American nations have already corrected the ID's, and solved the problem for them. That leaves RV'rs as the ones being discriminated against. Since many look at them as using the PO boxes to get around paying laws, I do not see lawmakers changing any laws to help them. Instead of complaining to the world, the native American Nations fixed the issue, and moved on.

I guess they don't mind you using their state to avoid taxes, but if you don't live there, they don't want you voting there. South Dakota has a pretty small population and allowing thousands of RVers from across the county to vote could sway their elections. They want your registration fees, not necessarily your input.

I thought the same thing. It's a mid-term STATE election. How can someone complain that doesn't live there? In FL ballots cannot be forwarded, you have to have a presents there to vote

How do you get past section 12 of the South Dakota voter registration form where you declare, under penalty of perjury, that: "I actually live at and have no present intention of leaving the above address" when you don't?

https://sdsos.gov/elections-voting/a...rmFillable.pdf

Next up will be you can't get a state drivers license using a mail forwarding address. With the Real ID Act and whatever else Congress passes no telling what the future holds.

How much sales and other taxes contributing to the state's well-being did you pay while you were there during the 24 hours required to get state residency? Just curious.
