Low-Ball Facebook Marketplace Ads, Scam?

What's with these low-ball ads on Facebook Marketplace? This one is for a 2002 Airstream Bambi for $1,200. Invariably, when you click the tab for dealer info, it takes you to a Facebook page created a few days ago with no pertinent information. The same, or similar ads, show up in different cities.

It has to be some sort of scam but I can't imagine what kind.

I spend about 15 minutes every day reporting these ads. I feel it’s my civic duty.

Not a Facebook user so I cannot comment on this exactly, but identical type ads are posted on Craigslist all the time and yes, they are scams. RVs with few pictures and generic descriptions and ridiculously low prices are the obvious give away. Most often, the pics are stolen from legitimate ads, or copied from the internet.

Bottom line, don't bother. In the simplified scam, the "seller" will ask for a deposit to hold the RV for you because there are so many people asking about it. That's when you'll lose your money.

If you're really tempted, call and tell the seller you are in the area and will be over in an hour to look, personally. He'll hang up.

Many variations on the above. If it's too good to be true, it's not true.

that Bambi visits Craigslist too.
Scam.
I report lots of these obvious scams too. Facebook requires multiple clicks to report so it's getting a little exhausting and same ads just repop up with the same "$1500 for this near new Diesel backhoe!" (yeah, right). The simplicity of Craigslist (one click on the Ban X) is what has made CL successful.

There is no teeth or motivation for these providers to do anything about it. I am wondering if that is why CL has started charging for ad placements ($5 I think). Of course that has dramatically reduced the number of ads (seems way more than the obvious scam ones).

I assume making it more difficult for a computer or mass scammer to post would be somewhat effective.

I guess there are enough silly uniformed people that make it worth the scammers effort so it continues.

BTW, sometimes those scams are there to get you to call. They then use callerID software to capture your live phone number and put you on their outbound phone calling list...

Here's a Craig's List add for a class A just waiting for some lucky future owner to drive home -

https://norfolk.craigslist.org/rvs/d...236825687.html

These didn't start yesterday, won't end tomorrow and are not unique to RVs.

So it's not just down here in Tampa. I saw a small Airstream (2003) listed for $1200. It wasn't just a "cavity of a once nice trailer" so I knew it had to be BS because even a cavity of a trailer - Airstream goes for more than that.

The other dead giveaway that it is a scam is when they mis spell something. As in the Norfolk ad for the Filletwood motor home.

That Fllletwoodd looks like a deal to me. Six cylinder gas engine for great gas mileage and four wheel drive to boot. I'm calling now!

No matter what it is if it is truly a steal of a deal It will sell within a few minutes of being posted. Otherwise it is either in much worse condition than advertised or it is a scam.

In 2012 I answered an add for a DP MH. After days of runaround about actual location of the MH I decided I'd had enough fun at the guys expense, but I kept him dangling for a week.
I posted about it here on irv2.com and someone replied they had answered the add and sent a down-payment before they realized it was a scam.
