Mail Services

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions regarding a good mail service for full-time rv'ers? We've been getting our mail forwarded from our old hometown in Utah, but don't plan on going back. We need to register our toad and don't really want to do it in Utah anymore. Too expensive!

What state do you want to use for your new domicile? The most popular services seem to be Escapees in Texas and Alternative Resources in South Dakota.

GeoPen, welcome to iRV2.

While you don't have to have your mail forwarding service located in the same place as your legal domicile, IMO it makes things neater if there is ever any question - like a question from your previous home state regarding taxes.

Texas, South Dakota, Florida seem to be the most popular states for Full-timers to establish their domicile because these states have no state income tax. I don't know about Florida, but Texas and south Dakota make it relatively easy to establish residency. They also have reasonable vehicle registration rates and insurance costs, but you will need to check those things out for yourself because everybody's situation is different.

As FlyingDriver mentioned, Escapees in Texas and Alternative Resources in SD are popular for mail forwarding, but there are others. Escapees service is legendary, but we went with Alternative Resources (and we have no complaints) because vehicle insurance costs in SD were much lower for us.

There are lows of pros and cons for each location. Scroll down to the Full-timers forum under "RV Life Styles" and do a search for "domicile" or "residency."

And you really need to look at your health insurance as well. That was the primary factor for us to go with Texas over South Dakota.

Our health care premium skyrocketed when we changed our address from a Branson, MO "mailbox place" to the TX escapees service. Luckily, we remain FL residents and that's what the health care pricing should have been based upon. We have never had a problem with the Escapees mail service and highly recommend it but as Joe mentions you want to make sure that it will not have a negative effect on your health care, retirement or tax situations.

Much appreciated!

Thanks for all the input. We are camphosting, so we will be moving every-so-often. Therefore we have no preferences as to where our "domicile" will be. I will make some phone calls Monday to get some answers regarding our health insurance and auto insurance rates. In the meantime, I will check out the full-time forum. Thanks, again!
By the way...what does IMO mean?
