Major Towing Mishaps

Perhaps this should be posted in the the travel trailer forum, but after seeing the actions of one Class C in the video, maybe more folks would appreciate this.

It so reiterates the advice of so many people here about towing weights, stabilizer bars, safe driving, overloading, effects of wind, you name it.

The video is about 10 minutes long so fast forward if need be once you get the gist of it.

Admin: I wanted to post a link like I have in the past. I did not want folks to automatically waste the time to download the video. Can it be edited?

Sorry folks.

I watched the whole thing! Soooo many "What the" moments.
Many of those could have been avoided just by slowing down.
In too many of those, the brake lights were way too late to have made difference!

So many with not enough tow vehicle and driving too fast. That’s what I envision when I read posts like “I just bought a fifth wheel with a #20,000 GVWR. Do I really need a one ton truck? My friend tows his with a half ton”.

On every one, I watched and thought about a piece of advice I seen posted here and thought, "if only they had listened".

Other thing I noted in addition to the small tow vehicles and heavy trailers, none of them had WDS and sway bars. The wind made them look like kites in a windstorm.

If the co-pilot knew how to activate the trailer brakes, many could have been avoided. I saw one unit that had the brake control that slides to the right, he had a piece of rope attached, orders to co-pilot, it the trailer starts o become unstable, she could pull the rope to activate the trailer brakes to straighten them out.

Nobody's downloading the video: it just has the thumbnail/video embedded in the webpage.

No way to edit the video as it is a compilation of short dash cam clips of trailers destroyng themselves and often the tow vehicle.

Long trailers , short wheelbase TV’s in most of the clips. It also looked like most weren’t trying to slow down once the trailer got loose

Why isn't a towing knowledge test a requirement for a driver's license?

Because pulling a trailer is one of the god given rights. Why should I be forced to know how to hook up, if my trailer comes loose it won't hurt me.
