Max Length in Campgrounds

I'm planning a long trip with a 22' travel trailer. Several of the state campgrounds I'm looking at have a 20' maximum. Think I should chance making a reservations with my TT being 2 feet over the maximum?

I should add that my husband is a retired commercial truck driver and can navigate our TT anywhere.

Call the campground directly and ask them. Sometimes they will be able accommodate you.

I wouldn't worry about it. Most of the public park folks have no clue as to what fits a site and what doesn't. We've put our 30' in a number of 20' sites without leaving the parking pad. Remember you have 6-10' that can overhang in the rear in many of those sites.

I've never seen anyone working at the park entrance measure a rig or even ask what size it was. I've also found that most sites that might say they're only good for a 20 or 28 foot rig, would actually fit a much longer one. Some private parks might be different, but I tend to avoid those.

Often times the length of the vehicle(s) in a campsite is limited by the access road rather than the length capacity of the site itself. I have seen sites in state campgrounds that would easily accommodate a 40 foot motorhome. However the road to them is windy and bordered so close with trees that it's difficult for a 30' motorhome to navigate them.

As previously mentioned it's best to call ahead and find out exactly why the campsite has a limited length.

Tell them your camper is 20 foot and go on with it. No one is going to get a tape measure out to measure a 22 foot camper.

Go with what others have said. Last weekend I accidently booked and used a 25 ft site with my 30ft motorhome. I still parked my pickup in front of the motorhome. I dont think I have even seen the issue.

2 foot should make NO difference.

I had the opposite happen. We reserved a site at a Tennessee State Park campground. As I was backing our 35 foot motorhome into the site the park ranger came around and said "you can't get that big thing into that spot. This campground is for small campers only". I showed her our reservation and she said "darn....they still haven't changed that web site yet?"

No guarantees but most Fl State campgrounds will accommodate rigs much larger than the stated maximum length. You might have some trouble parking a big truck too but many have overflow parking.

This is a dice roll, though chances are good that a 22 ft trailer will fit in a 20 ft RV site, particularly if you can overhang the rear of the pad. My motorhome is 29'5" overall, and I have fit in sites advertised is 25-27 ft long without an issue, but I have also barely fit into sites advertised as 30 ft sites, some of which have been close enough that I have put out orange safety cones for fear of getting clipped by someones towing mirror. Attached is a photo of our coach in a so called 25 ft site, it was close, but we fit with our rear ladder almost touching a tree limb, our front bumper was about the same distance from the edge of the road as the Bear Country sign, so little chance of catching someones tow mirror.

We've gotten our 40' motorhome into a 30' spot.

Don't worry about your 2'.
