Not sure this is proper grammar.
Honestly I knew what you meant, Proper grammar has it's place, texting and forums are pretty low on the list.

Funhaus,
I'm in total agreement. Grammar/spelling does have it's place. The problem is you and I can switch those choices on and off. Some, many, or most of the younger crowd these days can't.
Just yesterday I happened to watch a few minutes of a show with some of the younger generation discussing something on TV. The one girl must have used the word, LIKE 10 times trying to explain herself. She just didn't have any better choices of words in her vocabulary to properly explain or express herself.
If she wants to speak that way with her friends that's her choice but on national TV. WOW!!! That my friend is sad. She probably does not even realize she's saying it. It has become a habit because of the fact that nobody has corrected her for speaking so poorly.
I can not imagine hearing a lawyer arguing a case in court using the word LIKE over and over and over.
" Good morning your Honor. Today I'd YOU KNOW LIKE to present to you LIKE the points concerning the LIKE facts in this trial. We LIKE will hear from dozen of LIKE witnesses from LIKE both sides."
I do believe she would LIKE YOU KNOW be thrown out of court.

I'm on a local fb "for sell" page and cringe everyday at some of the stuff people say. Like . . . Do anybody have a chester draw for like cheap?
Or . . . I been had dis only 3 days and ain't like it. Will let go cheap.
It goes on and on. Funny but sad.

I find it extremely sad that so many of today's young people cannot write a sentence. In the accounting profession it is very important to be able to communicate with the IRS and other agencies in a precise and clear manner. For the last 7 years our application form has included a short handwritten paragraph about their interests. That short exercise tells me about their ability to write in a manner that others in the office can read, about their ability to write a complete sentence and about their ability to spell without using a computer. They look terrified when they come to that part of the application form. I understand why. Not everything can be communicated on a cell phone, tablet or computer. No cursive? How do you sign your name?

TeJay, I totally understand where you are coming from, just thought the "baby setter" was funny. I was picturing something like an Irish Setter dog.

davendeb, I see that constantly also " For Sell" most of those ads make wonder if it's a scam or not.
I will admit when I was in High School and College my grammar and spelling were A+ material, but I have found over the years of not having to write papers and such that it is often lacking, sometimes I catch my mistakes and sometimes I let them slide, depending on the format I am responding to.

When I was teaching math to gifted and talented students I would hold up my hand and start counting the "likes" on my fingers. It didn't take long to correct the problem.
I dare say the students probably spoke with better grammar and vocabulary in my class than in their other classes. All it takes is a bit of effort.

Yes, we are all interested in the content of the posts, but my interest wanes a bit when the writer makes no effort to communicate properly. Some people even find it too much effort to use the shift key to capitalize sentences and proper nouns.

I remember a sign years ago. It went something like this:
"Inteligint persinel on dooty to serve you."

aggie, i know what you mean. i was born and raised in alabama and georgia. if heard it once, ive heard it a thousand times, "im fixing to get ready",along with many other colloquial sayings are equally incoherent. ive learned over my last 72 years to just overlook that and realize i love my brothers and sisters, even if they are grammatically incorrect.it just isnt important enough to correct them.
my dad said it best. "get a good education, otherwise, the world needs ditch diggers too." even though, there are people with degrees doing menial jobs.
because they wont move to the job market. my son is included in that mix.
i credit the new i phone with the spelling problem, everything on the text portion is sent in abbreviations. your is ur. i dont know what to say for older people. just wide fingers like mine, i guess.
young people today want to start at a management position, and get a degree in geography to insure that employment.
here in prerscott, we have a college that will let you acquire a degree in any subject. if you want a degree in mountain biking, they will set up a course of study that will end in a degree. its called prescott college. strangest school of higher learning ive ever seen.
sorry for the rant, i just should let it go, i guess.
