dons2346: Thank you for your comments. If what you say is correct then why have they not implemented a tire discount program? Why does FMCA continue to print those flowery so called MH tests? Why not a real review that comments on real shortcomings? At one time the reviewer put his name to the review . Now they are anomymous.

I have no idea why FMCA doesn't have a discount program, probably never thought of it. Maybe they have and none of the tire manufacturers want to offer discounts to such a large group. I will pursue an answer.

Flowery MH reviews without the authors name? I am looking at the Feb issue where the 2011 Expedition was reviewed. It has the authors name on it, Bob Zagami. Look in the upper left hand corner of the first page. I haven't received my mail with the Mar issue but I would bet there is an authors name on that review also.

On edit:
Looks like FMCA did look into a discount. Here it is from FMCA

"A couple of months ago, FMCA received a suggestion that the association pursue a discount program with Michelin North America for RV tires. While this possibility was being investigated, word spread on the Internet about a potential program based on one that Michelin has with an association for tour bus operators and their fleets. Michelin representatives considered such a program for motorhome owners, but they have concluded that it is not feasible, due to the challenge of communicating and coordinating with the tire manufacturers more than 30,000 dealers that would need to be trained to administer the program.

FMCA members who are interested in purchasing Michelin tires are encouraged to talk with a local dealer about any discounts from the retail price these dealers are able to extend as a normal course of business.

Hi Don: My error on the names of the authors!!! But the reviews "suck"!! The reason given for no program does not make sense. Why did both a Monaco group and a Wanderlodge group both manage to arrange a discount? Both of those are certainly much smaller than FMCA. I just feel that there is no one that really represents OWNERS. Certainly not Good Sam or RVIA. A good example is MH weight. When the weights of MH's started to climb to where many units were overloaded or had a non usable capacity (front axle) FMCA should have intervened on our behalf and lobbied the mfrs. and the RVIA to put an end to this practice. If this was done I sure did not see any news on that subject in the magazine. Did I miss something? The reviews should be concentrating on real problems with a unit. Not that the toilet paper holder was in the wrong spot. I looked up a few older reviews in my mag pile and I see that Gary Bunzer writes some of the reviews. He is a MH expert but I would guess that FMCA provides editorial guidlines that prevent any criticism. Why? Prospective buyers deserve something that is between what Consumer Reports would write and what we have now. Perhaps you could bring this to the board's attention.

Winnie,
You won't find it there because there isn't any FMCA fleet pricing, with Michelin or anybody else. See the post about 5 back from this one, which links into a forum on the FMCA site and gives more info.

Hey, I agree that some reviews suck. Think about it for a minute. How would you like to have just bought an Acme Company coach and then FMCA does a review and says it is a piece of junk? You would be insulted and royally pi$$ed. Look at car reviews in the mags, they allways have more pros than they do cons.

Maybe you should volunteer to do some motorhome reviews.

Here are the prices I got yesterday from a large local truck tire supplier in Southern Calif. Only includes tire not sales tax. Michelin R12 22.5 = 681 Bridgestone = 559 Yokohama 472.
