Misters
Has anyone made a mister setup for the roof of your rv? I've been running a sprinkler up there during this hot spell and it keeps my ACs to 20% on time or less. We have 52° ground water so it really cools. But , I have to clean the hard water off the coach when it's all said and done. I ordered 40 mister nozzles off amazon and I hoping to use the evaporative effect for cooling. With the much reduced water usage I will run it through my whole house filter. Any experience, suggestions or thoughts are more than welcome.

A continous flow of any type of water is going to make a big mess of your Coach..........plus over time kill your well or raise your water bill...........RV's are not meant to be wet 24/7.........other problems will arise from all that water.

Wells are set up to irrigate. Not putting out near that kind of water. It fills the pressure tank about 1 or 2 times an hour. Runs less than a minute. Coach is fine with the water other than water deposits. Zep and wax will clean it up. Wouldn't do it for long but a week or 2 this summer , it still is bone dry in the morning.

A/C Condenser coils will scale up if water is hard
Short term help....long term & scale will inhibit heat transfer

Any mist system will have mineral build up as part of its operation. The minerals will cake on any nearby surface.

I plan on the mist water going through a 1 micron filter. Is that small enough?

No, filter's will not take the Total Dissolved Solids out of any water........

As others have said, the hard water will clog the mister nozzles in short order.

Softener will help for sure. Test hardness to know grains in water, get a cheap digital hose gallon meter to calculate when you need to regenerate. You can find a calculator spread sheet to use online plug in grains of water and softener unit used. Rust and chlorine eventually degrade resin bed ,so best to pre filter for rust in your case.

water softeners use salt to rejuvenate the resin bed during the regeneration cycle, it replaces the minerals the resin adsorbs during use. During use the salt remaining on the resin is replaced with minerals until it can no longer make "soft" water.
That is why Dr.s recommend heart/blood pressure patients avoid using a water softener that is regenerated by salt brine.

I probably wouldn’t do the misters, but what you are describing would probably work ok and wouldn’t hurt your rv.
The misters that I’ve seen on the boardwalks and shopping areas you could sit under all day and never get wet. They do cool the areas and probably use a minimum of water. Certainly softener water would be a plus to use to keep from clogging your mister nozzles, but you said you were only going to perhaps do this a couple weeks.
I’d say you should go for it while keeping an eye on the roof of your coach. I don’t think it will even get wet. As for as the salt from the soft water, to me that would be a non issue. Coaches sit in salty air all day and night in coastal areas.

Salt does not stay in the resin in a water softner, it is used to clean the resin then flushed out........ https://www.chemaqua.com/en-us/Blogs...softeners-work
