Monaco ??
Going out today to look at trading in my 2000 Coachmen for something newer and bigger.
Question.
Would you consider a Monaco since the company is out of business ?
What makes should I stay away from ??
Thanks

Monaco was bought out by Navstar (Workhorse) and is still making coaches according to their web site.
Check out their link below:

GatorDog,
More info please. What type are you looking for? Class A, C, 5ver? You said "newer" but if you buy a leftover "new" Monaco it will not have a "free" manufacturer warranty.

Thanks
I just found out you are right. No warranty. The dealer said something about an extended warranty but I think I'll take a look at Newmar.
They have a 2009 36 ft. Nrewmar for the same price as the Monaco.
Going back with Mamma to look at it again. Under $90,000 brand new.

Monaco hasn't built a coach in several months and still isn't making any, even though it has a new owner. Plans are under weigh, though, and ought to see something soon. Plus the parts dept is supposed to be open already.
Lazy Days (Tampa) is offering a 12 month extended warranty on any new Monaco with no factory warranty for only $310, whether you buy it there or not. That's a pretty good deal, considering that much of the coach has a warranty from a third party anyway. I'd buy a "orphan" Monaco if the price was right.

Thanks Gary
We saw the Damon Challenger last night. 37 ft. with all the goodies. Brand new 2009 for under $80,000. Thinking about it.

I was in Elkhart last week, and the word is that Newmar was going to close their doors in Sept. Don't know if it's true or not, but the person who told me this has been right on about everything else, so I'd be careful. As far as a Monaco goes....After all I've seen, and I've bought two Monacos since 2007, I just don't like the way they pulled off their own little "bail out." I look at Fleetwood, and I'm impressed that they made sure that their customers were taken care of, while Monaco just blew off their customers and that puts a bad burr under my saddle.

If I were you I'd take a strong look at Tiffin. Not only are they still doing okay, they've got the best support of all the rest of the manufacturer's put together.

I agree with Bob; If we were in the market for a MH, I'd want one from a company, like Tiffin, that's going to be around and not fighting serious financial survival issues. Whether the Newmar rumors are true or not, only time will tell; perhaps cb5300 was just hearing some local Elkhart "doom & gloom" conversations . Hope that's the case
We hear these rumors here in Iowa about Winnebago & Born Free, but for now both are solid and making appropriate adjustments for the future.
