RESTON, Va. -- In news that marks a substantial legislative victory for the RV industry, the RV Industry Association has learned that the conference committee final version of the $789 billion economic stimulus package includes a provision to specifically help the RV industry.

The rest of the story HERE.

I'm thrilled to see that the RV industry didn't take too much of a back seat in the stimulus bill to the Harvest Mouse.

Don't be so sure, we don't have all the details yet.

Only for New motor powered vehicles. That includes New Motorhomes (not used).
Too bad if you are too poor to afford a motorhome or prefer a towable.
But that's a preliminary ruling. Nobody's been through the entire 1000 Plus page bill yet. Sad, but that includes the ones that voted for it.

I stopped by our local Buddy Gregg dealer, looking for a part. I happened to get to talk to one of the their leading salesman. Here's what he said:
1. He has plenty of buyers - but none of them can buy.
2. The banks aren't loaning any money..period. Even people with stellar credit cannot get a loan executed.
3. When he contacts the RV makers, they are telling him that their tile guy or the electrical guy has laid off staff and that they are backlogged 4 months. Even if there were loans, getting the vehicles to sell is a real challenge.
4. Then there is the floorplan. Buddy Gregg has an outstanding financial reputation (his words) and has a huge line of credit. They cannot exercise it. The banks won't give BG the money either.

Sure sounds like a recipe for an industry that will really struggle to survive.

P.S. One of the California Congressmen was on TV this morning and said that it wasn't important for any of them to have read the stimulus bill. What he claims that he read was the analysis of the provisions of the bill. Let's see...the bill itself was almost a foot thick. I cannot imagine how much paper is involved in the analysis that they all read. I suspect that even some of them are going to be in for some real shocks about what they voted for.
