Moving to Oklahoma

Are there any special requirements when registering a fifth wheel. I searched DMV for Oklahoma but didn't see any. My fifth wheel is 8 years old and it looks like I have to pay Oklahoma tax on the price when it was new. Is that correct. I got three vehicles and an ATV that could add up to some bucks. I would just stay in Florida, but my daughter and grand kids live out there. Thought about just keeping everything registered in Florida but that would involve using a mail forwarding service, sure if they are worth it.

There are other things to consider like state income tax and medical insurance. OK is not one of the top 3 states for RV'ers to domicile in. The FL mail order service might be a better option. In TX we pay about $100/year plus $25 in postage for the mail service and Escapee benefits.

As far as the taxes i don't believe you have to pay anything. might charge a little more when you go to the tags for the vehicles. Welcome to OK, my mom just moved back from GA to here for the same reasons.

Double check on the tax thing, that might be for trailers that are new or haven't been registered before.

If I remember correctly 15 years ago I registered a truck and car in Oklahoma and didn't have to pay any tax since they had been registered in Texas already.

When i first registered my Monaco Signature I paid about 3 thousand to the Tag Agency. That was about 5 years ago, since then my annual fee is $33.00 per year. Vehicle tags run about the same per year.

Paying sales tax on a used vehicle ?!? never heard of that...
All you've have to do is register it and pay the annual licensing fees...

[Mod Edit] An rv is registered and tagged the same as an auto whether it be tribal or state so a new tag would have to be obtained. I'm not sure of the cost.

NY and NJ charge sales tax at the DMV for used cars.

I'll bet there are others.

Wisconsin charges sales tax on used vehicles, but it's based on the actual sale price of the used vehicle and not the original price.

Many states charge sales/excise tax on any purchase and new vs used is not a factor. However, you generally would NOT have to pay sales/excise tax on a vehicle you already own, i.e. it is not taxed again simply because you move to another state. If there is no purchase transaction, there should be no sales tax. Typically if you can show ownership for 3-6 months prior you would not be assesses a sales/excise tax. Likewise if you could show you paid sales tax elsewhere, that amount would typically be credited toward any tax that might otherwise apply. Since you already have a Florida title and registration, I'm guessing that both of these tax exemptions will apply. The details of your situation are critically important, so you really need to talk to an OK DMV office about bringing in a vehicle which you already own and have titled elsewhere.

When we moved from Georgia to Oklahoma we didn't have to pay any tax on the travel trailer we owned at the time. Just registration. Nor did we have to pay any tax on our other vehicles.

However our insurance on it went up. By quite a bit.
