Mystery Exterior Cracks

Hello,

I was inspecting today and found a mystery area with cracks. It is about the size of a nickel. I've attached an image of the cracks and it's location on the trailer.

This trailer is a Rockwood Mini lite with the ?filon? exterior.

My best guess is that something struck the exterior (maybe a rock?). My plan is to cover it up with a sealant of some sort and keep an eye on it.

However I thought I'd check with you all and see if anyone had any thoughts on what it might be.

What's behind it? Almost looks like it was hit from the other side.

It's difficult to tell but it seems to be below the tongue and groove floor. And unfortunately the under side is covered with that black plastic type covering.
I've thought of starting to dig into it but we're about to head out for a round of trips so I hesitate to start pulling things apart

Judging by the pic , it appears to be an impact from outside .

Note the scuff mark running across and centered in the damaged area .

It looks like a glancing blow , like hitting a post or stump when turning , or possibly a vehicle bumper or hitch that backed into the RV .

A quick patch with white Eternabond tape will get you through until you can get it repaired .

Interesting thought. It certainly didn't happen while I was present, but I park it at a storage lot, so who know what's going on there...

I had not considered getting it repaired. I thought I'd seal it somehow and (if it doesn't change) leave it be. How would a repair be performed? (This is our first and only trailer - bought new from a dealer - so my experience is rather limited)

I agree that it looks like a hit from the outside. I might just wipe some resin in it and forget about it unless you want to paint it. Acetone will remove the extra resin while it's still went. Most fly fishing stores sell UV cure resins in different viscosities that will cure in a few minutes in the sun. Good luck.

Looks like and impact from a rock. Probably from a lawn mower. Had that happen to my car while driving down the road. Guy mowing along the road at a business kicked up a rock and put a nice size dent in my car. Glad it didn't go through my open window and hit me.

Wick some CA glue in there. Done.

Not too much at once so it doesn't run everywhere.

Have a paper towel ready with some fingernail polish remover (acetone).
(test the acetone first on an inconspicuous area but should not mar the unpainted filon)

Talk to an auto glass repair shop. They may be able to us the same technique that they use to repair cracks in windshields. It's a vacuum process that pulls the epoxy resin material into the cracks.

As mentioned seems to a rub structure or fastener pushed against. Scrub with different things until the crack stains are gone. Try some cleat helicopter or clear high quality sail tape to make clear patch and keep sealed. Change tape when necessary.
