I agree with this one, the paying cash part, at 59 I don't want any debt. I don't know about the financial ruin part. If you can comfortably afford the payment then I don't see an issue.

We don't full-time (mainly use the coach for visiting my different offices and avoiding hotels) so for us the RV is a luxury item can't see going in debt for it. As a young man I learned my lessons about financing my toys. Its more fun wanting something than it is paying for it.

I got lucky on the Class A, the guy selling it was going through a divorce and had to spilt gains/debt with his soon to be ex-wife. He sold me the coach for less than he owed the bank. Next time I'm in the market for a coach I will have a divorce lawyer find it instead of the RV broker.

Just as a side note, your information about the NYS license is incorrect. You do NOT need a commercial license to drive an RV over 26,000 pounds and/or 40 feet long. You need an ‘R’ endorsement, not a commercial license.

and then there is the whole thing (across the US) about where is the vehicle titled and registered ... and where is the driver licensed ... and is the vehicle commercial .... and is the driver operating for hire. It goes on and on ... reciprocity is a big word!

Wife needs to make sandwich!

We spent several hundred thousand dollars on a Class A so that the wife can make a sandwich while we drive down the road.

That's not a myth in our MH, not the reason we bought one, but definitely one of the perks. She makes me lunch all the time while we're traveling.

....

Ahh, you bad, how does she do that wearing a seat belt.

New Myth - MH passengers are safer than riding in a car.

If it has the word "Resort" in the name it has to be a 5 star campground

Myth,
In most states, if you live full time in your rv and you are stopped on the highway because the officer saw you sipping on your favorite cocktail while driving, you simply tell him that you are RESPONSIBLY (seat belts on) drinking at home, at which point he will shake your hand and thank you for being a model citizen.
