All of our clamping over the past 4 years has been in regular full hook up campground$, my wife insisted this when we started but is now willing to go into state parks!. We’ve haven’t stayed in a state park yet. When you book a state park are the length restrictions enforced?

If you are talking to the park itself, they usually know the spot and its specific details. If on line or a call center, nope, its by the numbers.

You can go on to the state parks web to see max length allowed. I had a 45’ Travel Supreme and always called ahead to verify it could fit and reserve a long spot if they had any. State Parks usually want under 30 ft. Some parks are doing more to accommodate larger units like up to 36-38 ft. You just have to call and ask in advance.

Length limits are usually enforced by physics, this could be the narrow winding camping loop drives, or the angles and obstacles involved in backing into the RV site. For example the RV space may in some cases be plenty long for a 36 ft motorhome to fit, but with width of the loop road, location of trees, marker posts, boulders, etc. might make it impossible to clear these obstacles while making the nearly right angle backing turn into the RV site.

Thank you to everyone for your answers. I thought length restrictions were more of an environmental thing when it came to lengths in state parks. But I now see it’s more of what they have available as far as space goes and the limitations the way the park is laid out and cleared
I have tent camped a heck of a lot over the years with just my kids. Growing up was the same way with my dad, my mom never tent/camped until we moved up to travel trailers. I do know when I tent camped with my kids there were always restrictions on the maximum amount of people per site. I always thought this was to cut down on The overuse of resources and not to destroy the environment, I figured it might be the same with the size of an RV. I haven’t been in a state park with an RV on my own yet nor have I ever look into it.

What has changed drastically in the last 10 years is the number of folks with RVs! We’ve traveled for 12 years, rarely with reservations. The trip is a lot more enjoyable without deadlines, but the population you are competing with is so huge now. Definitely go when the kids are in school!! Don’t move around holidays!! Arriving late Sunday or early Monday afternoon makes it less risky. Our 12 year rig is 34’. Been ideal for us! Most trips 3-4 mos. Yes, your body size is important consideration. The absolutely most important — much more than size — reliability!!!!! We were blessed with wonderful reliability. Multiple things breaking will make you very miserable!!!! Many, many rigs aren’t made as well as they use to be! I hear/read this all the time!!!
Happy, Happy trails.

Hi Andrena, Thanks for your advise and sharing your experience. Arriving on Sunday/Monday is a great idea.
I want to thank all those whose replied to this original post. Many well thought out recommendations. Your experiences have been invaluable. The net is max. length can be different for everyone, based on goals and where they RV most. I'm think 35-38 would be best for us, except my wife is pushing hard for a king bed, making it more challenging when buying used and that fit my criteria.
I am pleasantly surprise by the number of responses to this post. Surpassing my expectations.

A King is not a King is not a King. In the RV it will be an RV king, not a real king. It's shorter meaning any linens wont fit and worse, after a few weeks/days of use when it gives up the ghost. When you sit on it and your butt bottoms out, as you lean on it your elbow goes firmly against the plywood base, you won't be able to go to Costco or Sam's to get a good affordable mattress. You'll have to shop at CW or a specialized store at obviously much higher prices. Linens are probably higher too since it's a limited market that needs them. Course your wife could spend several hours sweating behind a sewing machine altering your favorite home sheets.
My recommendation is real queen, 60x80 real queen, beware of RV queen or you'll be faced with the same problems. For me a comfortable night's sleep is very important to my back and the rest of my body agrees, so does my wallet. RV manufacturers readily advertise "KING bed", KING SUITE" but only close looking in an obscure location you might find the diminutive dimensions.
I'm ordering a GD 351M toyhauler and it WILL have the queen. I sat on some examples on dealer's lots and it felt pretty good, good support. This isn't my first rodeo though so I know that mattress will lose it's support faster than a politician breaks a campaign promise. I may use it during the shakedown local trips but before I cross a state line, Sam's here I come.

Reply to the King is not a King - except when it is a KING - We have a King and it has and uses the same sheets as the king in the house.
While - granted some and possibly many are not true King sized Beds - Some and Possibly many Are - do your homework - use a tape measure and order what works for you.
If you talk with most RV'ers they likely have added a memory foam topper to the top of the Bed - I have - Do - Still - Sleep better on the Mattress, in the Coach, than the one at home.
Think this ia a good point proving how critical it is to Work From a LIST to Know what you Want and What you Need - then make sure you have that in what you select.
For us we started with just a few simple and Critical items that we felt we needed - King - Full Sized Shower - Good Heat - Good Insulation - TV Location - Comfortable Seating - when we were finished we had a Notebook Filled with our Personal choices an ultimately had it Built for Us.
15 years and still Going - and still Happy.

Two years ago we purchased a 2000 model 40' motorhome with a King Bed (76" X 80"), My first impression is, "what a waste of space in a motorhome". After about six weeks we pulled out the King Bed and replaced it with the Queen Bed (60" X 80") from the house. Those few inches we gave up in width sure did multiply in available space in the bedroom.
Because both of the beds had standard sizing, it made finding sheets easy.
I use to kid my wife and tell her maybe we should just go "Ozzie and Harriet" with twin beds. Plenty of width.

I think you have the perfect motorhome. I really like that model.
King size bed, residential fridge, couch right in front of the TV. And it is an upscale rig.
One may be in our future...

Granted I don't know what is in ALL RVs but the king bed typically being installed in the Curren t offerings is the RV king, shorter. Problem with a king even in residential there are 2 main sizes, regular and California. There are also some "unique" sizes bigger listed as "king" also. In RV king they can be 72x80 or 72x75. Many that I have looked at with the "king" you could barely squeeze by one side. Getting in/out of bed or making it is rather awkward.
We don't have Bob, Carol, Ted, and Alice over so a really big bed isn't needed. I also use a CPAP and need a night stand to put it on and most of what I've seen when the RV king goes in, the nightstands go away. Bottom line the great thing about this is choice. Your choice to chose your style and features. I hate to see people unwittingly get something different from what they thought was represented. So if one wants a king do so but I suggest checking clearances and measure. Cause a king may not be a king, etc......

If you can arrange it you should try and schedule a factory tour. We did it in 16 and it was great. Unlike many of the factory tours, Tiffin takes you down on the floor amongst the actual workings. Up close and personal. After the tour we could wander around the "yard" and look, inside and out, at many models. These were completed but pre-delivery units. It's a luck of the draw but you might see a Zephyr next to a Open Road. Hopefully they haven't changed the way they structure the tour. We stayed at a COE in MS and drove over.
