A Trav'ler is so much better than any dome. We just had a SK-1000 (for Dish) installed at Camping World for $2000 and that included a warrantee add-on. The job was done well.
The SK-3005 should be about $400 more. So the $3500 number is excessive.

I was told the installation---all the wiring, etc, would add about $1500 to the price, to get the full Directv hookup. My local CW didn't seem to know anything about hooking it up to DTV.

From what I've read on the DBS (direct broadcast satellite) forums, DirecTV has not been allowing customer to specify which Genie model they received. My understanding is that the HR44 (which we have) has most of the important attributes of the HR54; it is quite compact and puts out a lot less heat than previous models. It doesn't have a built in power inserter; a PI-29 is required.

$3,500 seems way too high. The Travler itself is only about $1,400, a little more for Direct vs Dish.
Is the wiring going to be complicated in your coach? I just removed the King Dome and installed the Travler for Dish on mine. I thought I would use the King Dome wiring, but as it turned out I could get up into the roof area for the wiring through the front cabinets and it was a straight shot from original roof penetration for cable to my entertainment center. I ended up running new coax and new control cable just because it was so easily accessible. Looks like factory!
The Travler itself is pretty straight forward install. Took about 3 hrs.

True you get what the DirectV installer has in stock but you can spend $299 and buy one from Solid Signal then have DirectV supply the clients. I was able to get two C41W clients and the video bridge from DirectV with only a two year contract. If course if you have a 4K TV set then DirectV will supply you the HR-54 and the C61K clients.

If you don't want to do the installation yourself hire a handyman for an hours work, it's that easy. If you want more than one tv it's a little more expensive but nowhere near $3500. Get in your car and go to a camping world and talk to them because they carry the gear and know rv's.

The question you quoted was in reference to DirecTV.
You can not get HD DirecTV with a dome. I have the King Quest dome for DirecTV and it is standard definition only.

The old Hughes satellites are going to be de-orbited because they are running out of station keeping fuel. They are still working fine but can no longer keep their place in the heavens. That is the Ku band of frequencies used in the 101 degree galaxy. The two other galaxies that a Sl-3 can receive are at the 99 and 103 west longitude. They are Boeing sats and transmit the Ka band. As far as I know, the 110 and 119 DirectV sats will remain for some time and are on the Ku band.
