Best thing to do is call the DMV. You can have a vehicle in storage or use it seasonally. You'll need to submit a dormant vehicle affidavit. You have to give up your registration during the dormant period, but you keep your plates. It's probably easier to just drop your insurance to the bare minimum during the time you have it stored. The minimum there is $25k/$50k/$25k. Should be fairly cheap.

Good catch! I had not even thought of that until you mentioned it. The financial responsibility would be with the towing vehicle (motor vehicle as opposed to trailer).

Perhaps another topic: My state's minimum insurance requirements are long out of date and need to be increased significantly. I suspect the same for other states. All IMO of course.
