General info

Living in Idaho my whole life I'm no stranger to driving on snow, and ice. The three most important things that are known, or should be known are, and I'm sure this list may vary slightly.
1. If you don't have to be on the road, don't be on the road.

2.4x4, and AWD vehicles have their place for sure, but will get you in just as many bad situations with ice as FWD or RWD vehicles.

The main one, and possibly the most significate.........

3. If you have to be on the road, slow the *&%# down!

Never driven a MH on crap roads, but dump trucks transporting heavy equipment, yes, and the many vehicles that you see off in the ditch, some are folks that thought their vehicle was the king of bad roads. I'm certainly not trying to come off as an expert, I've been in the ditch more than once.

I retired in 2006 but continued to drive 40 foot transit bus at north and south Lake Tahoe winter and summer all of 20 plus years.. Winter driving in white out blowing snow conditions with 2 inches of ice on the road surface with passengers and monumental safety concerns was a driving experience. On down grade the chained rear duels might not prevent the coatch form sliding.
Purchased a Vista 26P 2009 with 1800 MLS, now 99000. Took the wipers off not to obstruct the view. I am on my 3rd set of hwy tires and I don't carry chains.
I plan trips to stay on dry roads. I limit driving hours because I have more time than money.
My two cents....head for dry roads during daylight hours.
