New Laws in CA

All - NOTE: I understand some folks don’t like guns or anything to do with them, I respect your right to feel that way, BUT all of us on this forum own or use RVs, and I would not want anyone of us to come afoul of the law because we/I did not know it. This post is provided in that vein, please respect my rights and feelings to care about my fellow RV’ers, without disrespecting my right to own and bear arms. All of us want to be legal in all facets of our life to the best of our ability.

https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/travel

I suggest you read and understand this rule/law when thinking about transiting the state of CA. Because I “used to” cut the corner of the state, I no longer will transverse the state because I refuse to give up my personal safety. [Mod Edit] Please be aware of what they can do to you if you get stopped. Showing them your CCP from another state could only escalate the issue and the officer might like to search your RV to determine if you are in violation of the law. Ignorance is not a defense or an excuse.

Additionally – many of you travel with more than one weapon, and do so because of hunting, or you like to competition shoot or shoot for distance be aware of what this law says. https://oag.ca.gov/firearms - This is the law regarding what CA now defines an assault weapon. It appears that pistols can be classified as an assault weapon as well based on how it reads. Note any magazine over 9 shots is illegal in CA now. Even if you are a resident of another state.

[Mod Edit] “YOU ARE” required to know the law as above and follow it [Mod Edit] and as I mentioned above “ignorance is not a defense or an excuse”

I am not an expert, but the US Supreme Court has ruled, that because you are in your RV, that is considered your domicile or home when using it on the road. In your defense, you can shoot an intruder if you feel your life is in jeopardy, I would make sure the perp falls inside the RV to be sure. To my knowledge CA does NOT HAVE a stand your ground law as other states do.

So if I carry a revolver with 5 shots I am okay because it is not a removable clip? I carry a 45/410 Judge in my RV. I cannot legally take that into Ca?

From what I casually read, you have to have it unloaded and not available or locked away.

Again, from casual reading, I think it really best not to take a firearm of any kind to Cal, this is sounding a lot like Can.

Since I won't travel unarmed, Cal is off the list; I am sure they can survive without my tourist $$$.

The judge is a problem since it's considered an assault weapon as I understand it. The previous poster has it right, if all gun owners would just stay out of CA regardless of their mode of travel, the tourist industry would then put pressure on the other agencies and maybe they would relax the law. Regardless, other things as like the price of Diesel/Gas keep me out of CA. I used to enter just below K. Falls, OR and scoot over to Reno that way, I filled up in K-Falls at the pilot station, and then again in Reno at either the Flying J/Pilot station since they are about 1 exit apart. The price is considerable cheaper in OR and NV than CA, so I have been avoiding the state for the most part because of those costs, although, I will miss that nice little RV park just outside Susanville, the owner is a prince of a fellow and it's a very nice place to overnight. But now CA is off the list. FWIW-Clark County, NV (Las Vegas and maybe Hendersonville) have also passed some funky new gun law, so I think LV is off the list too. Pahrump is a nice place and Front Sight is there anyway. Find it online.

Under absolutely no circumstances can you bring a .45/.410 weapon into CA.

Judge, Governor, etc - are specifically illegal

If you want more detail on the specifics than you can imagine try www.calguns.net

X2 They won't get my money.

Perhaps with the new administration we can get some things passed that doesn't make gun owners illegal into criminals.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is it not illegal to carry a concealed weapon into most states that do not have reciprocity? If you are legal to carry in Florida and you come up to NY I believe, and this is not my area of expertise, that you can be arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. Is this correct or not? I would assume that is the same in California.

Yes. Even though I have had a background check and can openly carry or conceal carry in Ga if I go into a state that doesn't have reciprocity with Ga then I have broken the law. Even though that state may allow concealed or open carry, I'm a criminal because it doesn't have an agreement with Ga.

Hopefully this will help avoid ignorant laws like this

Nationwide reciprocity bill ready to introduce in 2017

I am seriously considering it, too. I was born in L.A., lived here all my life. But California has become a cesspool, as far as I am concerned. And, I am a gun owner.

The only thing going for California is that I don't have to winterize my RV.

Our rules require any firearm discussion be RV related.

Let's not get off topic and some posts have been removed for that reason.

Thanks!
