New Mexico RV Driver's License Requirement

There was an article in today's Albuquerque Journal that clarified the requirements for NM driver's license for motor home drivers. The article references the NM MVD Driver Procedure Manual, Chapter 2, Section E

Per this information, if you drive a motor home weighing less than 26,000 lbs, there are no special license provisions. If your motor home weighs more than 26,001 lbs, you need to have a class "E" endorsement on your license. To get that, fill out NM MVD form MVD-10414 (available on line), take it to a MVD office and pay for a new licence with the "E" endorsement. No testing is required. It simple affirms that the vehicle you are driving is not used for commercial purposes.

I did this this morning and all is well!

This sounds like something that was thought up just to get more revenue for the State.

X2 only to generate money. The kicker is no test, just a fee.

Isn't that the purpose of MVD in general? Very little of what they do has any value added component.

The license fees generally don't even cover the cost of issuing them. The purpose of having a driving license is so that it can be rescinded by the courts if you misbehave. How can you lose your license if you don't have one?

Now if only all the people driving without a license cared...
