Have you ever stayed at Bayou Segnette and how do you like it?
I know it is close to NOLA but I wonder about safety and access to the park. I know that one of the bridges you have to cross is VERY narrow.
Just curious.

Just to let you know that all of the main roads to the State Park are very friendly to RV's but a side road that crosses the river near Avondale is a narrow bridge, but there should be no reason to take that route as it is somewhat out of the way no matter which direction you approach from..

We stayed at Bayou Segnette State Park last year. The park is really nice and security was not an issue. I would consider this an urban park since it is in a really busy area. The levy inside the park (at least while we were there) was undergoing construction due to the hurricane in 2003 and there was some day time noise associated with this construction. The state park office provides directions to all sorts of local attractions including how to get to the French Quarter. It is a 15 minute drive to the ferry which drops you right at the French Quarter. The ferry is free but there is a $5.00 parking fee. We felt perfectly safe. I did not think laundry facilities we're good at the park and the area is 4g capable even at the state park with Verizon.
Avoid the Huey P. Long Bridge at all costs. The bridge is under construction and the travel lane was very narrow and we had only about an inch from the jersey barriers on each side. It was a terrifying experience for us as we were towing a 40 ft 5th wheel. As far as we could tell, the only advertised restrictions before the bridge was that trucks cannot pass on the bridge. It is better to travel farther on I-10 (we were approaching from the east). I am sorry, I do not remember the exit number but it is a much better option.

We will be in the area (actually we've been here for 2 weeks already) but our pup just had hip surgery so we won't be able to travel anywhere far from our RV to visit for the next month. We're actually at Riverside-Fairview now, but moving back to Fontainebleu the day after Christmas. We looked at Bayou Segnette but decided against NOLA traffic - let us know how you like it!
We've really enjoyed New Orleans & the North Shore - so much that when we found a vet surgical specialist - we decided to stay for the holiday while Samantha recovers. We've hit a few neat restaurants in the area & I have fallen in love with muffalettas! We've driven around a lot of the city and really haven't felt unsafe - but we lived in Vegas & Baltimore, and lived in the city in Rochester so we are pretty comfortable with city life/ living.
I've done a few blog posts & posted a ton of pictures on our facebook page ( GeekyExplorers | Facebook) if you want a preview! Enjoy your trip!

We are traveling with 2 pugs. I am hoping there won't be any issues on the road. How is Samantha doing? Is the weather good? We are just outside of Chicago and getting flurries tonight. Can't wait to leave.

On New Years Eve, on the riverfront is a huge fireworks display, that can be viewed from both sides of the river. The Jax Brewery shopping mall is one of the most popular spots, the only fees would be for parking. It is a very popular event here and is also televised on the local TV channels...

Samantha is doing amazing - thanks for asking. For just having a bi-lateral hip surgery, she is walking so well. We aren't running into any issues with her eating or anything so whew! We thought we were going to have a super stressful & frustrating 2 weeks and she is just doing so well, it's not nearly as bad!
We are enjoying the weather - no lake effect snow! The next ten days it looks like mid 60's during the day & high 40's at night.
Safe travels on the road & if your pugs do well on normal road trips, they should be fine! We found in the month we've been traveling Samantha has fallen into a patten on moving days - she's calmed down a lot from the first move we made!
