New to The Class A

Looking for some suggestions-

I just purchased a brand new 2020 Georgetown Series 3 - 30x

The dealer made a great suggestion in bringing it home and doing a mock camping experience.

We had a very through walk through and demo.

Once home......

The 5500 Cummins Onan generator so far is the only issue. It will start and run for a few minutes and then shut down.

The fuel tank is full- the oil is full. I have looked at forums and YouTube videos. I have seen the recommendations of taking oil out due to overfilling.

Just to be totally transparent- the generator ran for about 15 minutes on a ride with the in-laws.

Then shutdown-

I dropped about a pint of oil out this morning. The generator started and ran for at least 20 minutes and then stopped.

Now- it will start and run for minute and stop.

Took it back to the dealer- I just hate to not identify the issue.

I do agree they need to fix it- and the generator has only 3 hours of run time.

Just wondered what the more experienced class A owners or long time RVers would suggest.

I believe that the topic with the most people complaining is Onan Generators. Followed by furnaces in the run up to cold weather, and then year round refrigerators.

flash light sequence on the start switch

When the Onan shuts down, the start switch ONE THE GENERATOR should flash a sequence of light flashes that indicates a error code. Consulting the owners manual, this will lead you in the direction of the problem.

Check this out and let us know what you find....

OBTW, congratulations on the new RV!!!

New or old, generators don't like to have gas sit long in the carburetor. Try buying some SeaFoam and running the generator from a small separate tank. Mix a pint of SeaFoam with a gallon of gas. I do this several times a year, whenever it run rough or starts hard.
