Newbe What a Low Point Drain Question

Hey All,

Newbe here, so I finally was able to take our trailer out camping last weekend. This was our first trip with the trailer. After setting up everything after about two hours the Low Point Drain started dripping water. I was connected to city water with a pressure gage. The dripping from the Low Point Drain would only stop after I turned the water off. I searched for a valve on the underbelly of the trailer but did not fine one. I ended up keeping the fresh water turned off all night so that I did not have a puddle under the trailer. We were only staying one night so I kept the Gray water tank closed. The next day after draining the Gray & Black tanks and after getting unhooked once I mover the trailer I had more water flow from the Low Point Drain.

So what am I doing wrong? how do I stop the Low Point Drain from dripping? is there a valve somewhere in the trailer that I need to close? I've consulted the manual but it was confusing.

Any advise is appreciated.

The TT is a 2016 Jayco White Hawk.

Though they come in different designs, I’ve always known the low point drain to have a shut off valve, somewhere. Your description sounds like the valve is either partially open or has an internal leak. Either way, you need to locate the valve and check it thoroughly.

Be sure it’s the low point drain that’s leaking. Your post indicates the leak only happens when there is pressure in the lines, either from city water or the pump. Low point drains are designed to release water by gravity. Since yours drips only under pressure, it sounds like a bad O-ring in the valve or a slightly opened valve.

You say you had a pressure gage or regulator on the city water? What was the pressure? I'm not sure I understood what you are saying. If the city water is turned off, no leaks, but when you disconnected altogether, it leaked. Do your possibly have a faulty o-ring on your drain valve?

The Low Point Drain Lines probably have 'T' handle valves inside the RV
Visualize where those Low Point Drina Lines come up thru the trailer...go inside and LOOK for the 'T' handles on the cold and hot water lines
Those 'T' handle valves are Opened by TURNING then Pulling UP
Close by Pushing Down and turning

Location May be on Label on outside of trailer

I have a 2017 Whitehawk. The front low point drain (fresh water tank) has a valve located below the underbelly. The rear low point drain actually comes from inside the TT. One valve is under the kitchen sink and the other is behind a panel underneath the hot water heater.

I've gotten under the trailer and looked for a valve for the front Low Point Drain in the underbelly but I did not locate it. I only had water coming out of the front drain. The drain is very close to the kitchen sink so I will look for it inside the trailer I'll also check the hot water heater. Thank you.

The pressure was at 45 psi.

Thank you. I will look for them inside the trailer. I had been focused on the underbelly of the trailer.

While you’re poking around under sinks, etc, it would be a good idea to check all your plumbing connections to be sure they’re snug. They can loosen up over time as the trailer bounces down the road.

The low point drains on my trailer only have a threaded end cap to keep it from leaking. It is a quality plastic cap the screws on the low points. If I loosen the cap I get a leak but when I tighten the cap it stops leaking. I am glad it is a thick high quality cap.

If that is what you have maybe clean the cap to make sure it has a clean connection.

Oh, my low point drains are threaded and the caps are also threaded. So they screw on.

And the two, one hot and one cold drain hoses are under my trailer and comes thru the enclosed underbelly and are easy to see.

Our previous Jayco had the low point drain valves under the sink inside the cabinet.

+1 on this, My 2018 flagstaff 30wtbsv also only has caps and no valves.

I have seen plenty of debris in the plumbing system at faucets on mine, so there is a good chance you may also be right on the cap having some plastic shavings on the o ring causing the seal to leak.

Your water pump check valve is sticking and allowing city water to fill up the fresh water tank, apparently you have the drain to that tank open. Common problem. Another thread on that issue.
