I would check with the ins co that has your tow vehicle ins and house ins. That's how we did it. Was quite reasonable.

Ours is with GEICO. Never a claim so no idea if they are the best.

If you will only use it part time and vacations, your auto insurance carrier will probably give you the best price by combining with the policy of your tow vehicle.

We use the same company our car and truck as well as homeowners is covered by, AMICA. I have had two RV related claims in the past 12 years. Both have been 100% paid against the repair quotes within a few days.

USAA doesn't insure travel trailer. So they sent me to Progressive. Their quote was around $500, which seems high.

That is why I am asking around.

Now, I need to start checking on Roadside Assistance.

Thanks,

You get what you pay for. I have had USAA since 1994 for everything. USAA are taking care of through Progressive. I have had four RV's and have claims here and there. Paid in full and never had a rate increase. On my new TT I max everything I could on the policy including full replacement. it was just under $600 yearly.

Whether $500 is high or low depends on what the coverages are and whether you need whatever they quoted. And if your USAA can't meet your needs, I'd consider changing to another who can. Get some quotes for car + trailer from other sources - there are many good ones available.

Insuring a trailer with through a separate company or agency is almost always more expensive. Plus, if you didn't specify what coverages you wanted, they have a tendency to load up to maximize their billing/income. Presumably there was collision and comprehensive, but what deductible amounts and was there "campsite liability" included? Personal property coverage and amount?. Etc.
