Newbie Owner in 2 weeks, has insurance and extended warranty questions.

Picking up my 2008 CCoach Inspire on the 14th +/-. I have obtained an insurance quote from Good Sam and Progressive (USAA), and an extended warranty from Good Sam. Insurance was $1,571 for the RV, and got discounts for adding my toad and an enclosed trailer (total annual $2179). An extended warranty quote was $1700/yr locked in for 3 years.

Can you more experience folks please give my wife and I some good advice? Time is getting short! We are going to live in this coach for a year to finish a job contract and then hit the road.

Help please!

Your insurance rate depends on several things, value of the coach, whether you have a replacement cost vs. actual cash value policy, your driving record, your credit risk (riskier credit gets higher rates).

Can't talk to the extended warranty. Don't have one on my 2001.

HAVE you tried through AARP for your insurance? Also do a search on extended warranty and compare coverage and price, read and reread the coverage. I was happy with the Good Sam warranty and what it covered and you price quote is near what I had. It did pay for covered items no problem, but if needed use a shot that knows how to work with any warranty company.

That seems a bit high for the coach, but rates vary tremendously based on location and the factors cited above. I know of some areas of the country where that $1500 would be considered good, and others where it would be outrageously high. You should shop around some more - try an agency such a Miller RV Insurance to see what they can find for you.

An extended warranty is a more complex question. The whole notion of buying that sort of insurance (it is NOT a warranty!) is a matter for great debate. I suggest you use Search on this site to find and read the many previous discussions of extended warranties in general and the Good Sam ESP (Extended Service Plan) in particular, then make you own call.
