A main road near our home that runs along the coast has a no trucks policy.
We have a 34 foot fifth wheel and an F350 dually diesel. This road is also a main way to leave town. The way the trucks are forced to go is to drive through the center of the large city next to our town.

We think that we will not be able to use this road because of the no trucks rule but is that always the case? We understand that the height limitations of some streets and roads will exclude our being able to use them.

If we follow navigation programs for truckers will we be doing ourselves out of being able to use some roads we might otherwise be OK using with a one ton truck and a fifth wheel?

Thanks to all of you for your patience with our questions. I usually make an effort to find the information in a previous thread but sometimes I do not find the correct words to use to find the threads.

In most places, "No Trucks" means that commercial trucks are not allowed. Pickups are not prohibited.

However, within the city limits of Chicago and (probably) in some other even pickups are included in the ban. Not an exact quote, but the law refers to all vehicles whose primary design function is to carry cargo.

The bottom line is that on the road that you refer to, pickups are allowed, but to be sure, you will have to check.

We have driven the dually alone on this road. In MA they make us get a commercial plate for dual wheel trucks.

Our concern is that towing our fifth wheel will make us "look" more like a cargo truck and get us in trouble. I will ask at our local police station and report back what they say about it.

You should be fine, but in MA., who knows. Y'all have some strict laws. Best to check with your local Police Department.

Sorry to take so long to report, the local police said that we can use this road. We traced our way out to the highway and realized that we could not go this way in any case as there is a low railroad tunnel along that route.

So we drive through some of the busiest parts of a city to get out to the highway that goes around Boston. We must go around Boston as we cannot take our propane tanks through any of the may tunnels.

We made a four day trip and passed through Lynn and out to the highway without incident. DH did a good job.

I'm sure that all of you experienced people know to check your route before you go. We drove it first in our car to make sure there were no surprises.

We really need an app that guides us around low bridges and such.
