Newbie with a water overflow question

Hi everyone,
My husband and I just bought a 2016 Starcraft autumn ridge and we love it. We used the first time yesterday and slept in it. I have stupid question.

We forgot to open one of our gray tanks and the water overflowed in our outdoor kitchen. Now we have a little anti freeze smell in the rv. How do I get this smell to go away?? The insulation under the outdoor sink is still soaked.

Help please

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Was it still winterized? It may be RV antifreeze.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

As long as there is residue, the odor can last. Lucky it was "only" grey water and anti-freeze and lucky it was the outdoor kitchen, but still needs immediate attention.

The key is cleaning and ventilation. Open everything up as much as possible, remove and clean or replace any saturated materials.

When this happens in a fixed home, there are companies people call for water remediation. Fancy name because it is much more than just removal of standing water and mopping-up.

If allowed to remain wet, laminates will fail, mold will grow, metal parts and fasteners like nails, staples and screws will rust, and hardwoods will fail to be hard.

According to "RV Business" magazine water damage is the #1 loss factor in RV's. This is most often leaking roofs and windows, but a big spill or flood is no less bad.

Best luck

At minimum you need to open things up under there. Pull the soaked insulation out and toss it. It has to be replaced with new. Run a fan on the rest of it to speed up the drying process, however long that takes.

Once insulation gets wet, it never dries out. Like a sponge it holds water.
Be sure it's dry before you seal it up.

Very doable and successful if done right.

Please don't ask how I know these things.
